  1. Two days ago, I got an email from Chicago which stated, in part, "Your application has now been forwarded to the admissions review committee in the Department of History. We will continue to receive materials for you, and after they are processed, they will be sent to the department to be matched to your application." Anyone know if Chicago has a rolling admissions policy? If so, once the Dep't gets your shiz, how long does it take from then?
  2. and that was the motive behind applying to so many. that and apparently i have a disposable income, ahem, not really. as for waiting and relaxing: i think that going through law school, taking and passing the bar, and practicing law has prepared me for stress, to say the very, very least. it's not like i'm sitting over here in north carolina pacing circles into my floor. i'm just trying to blow off a little anxiety on this site. Isnt that, after all, what this site is partially designed for? Meh.... Enuff 'o that. Riotbeard, how do you like Tulane? I saw from some old posts that you applied to South Carolina because of their emphasis on southern history. i also think SC is an up-and-coming school, one that is likely underrated. they dont really have a solid program in what i'm pursuing, but perhaps they'd want to carve out a caveat for moi. we shall see....
  3. UPENN has a highly regarded JD/PhD program. See, it's all tomato/tomato. I guess at this point, I can't erase the fact that I didn't do a JD/PhD program and at this point you can't help that you havent dont a JD first (by and large). So, I guess we'll just see where the cards fall. I just wish they'd tumble on my head soon!
  4. i *THINK* i'm thankful for this....
  5. As if im not embarrassed enough.... thx.
  6. Oh that's great that you'e both at OSU! Fantastic. The odds! Did he have interviews?
  7. Hey, god, it's me again. Save me from myself. Hugs, MegMill.
  8. Thanks ScreamingHairy. Even though tha'ts bad news, it's better than no news. How'd your bf fair in the whole process? Was he as neurotic as the rest of us? Did he get in where he wanted to go? I sure hope so...
  9. "Hi bhikhaari...." Do they make a 12 step for this? Honestly, I've got to get a grip or else this going to create a monstrosity of an ulcer in my gut. and and and and
  10. Well, Rdx, I've already got the JD. I think you're right though.... That is the route I should have taken. Dumb, dumb, dumb.
  11. Yeah I've definitely emptied out my checking AND savings account on this whole GRE, App process. And the reason why I applied to so many schools is because I am convinced I won't get in anywhere. The idea of applying to like 17,000 schools and not getting into even ONE of them is haunting me in the daylight and in the nightwatches. I need a mercy killing.
  12. Is anyone else already freaking out? This is absolutely ridiculous! It's not even mid-December and I cannot even control my thoughts, let alone biting my nails to bloody nubs! Ugh! Has anyone ever heard of schools letting you know before late feb/mid-march? I mean really... I. NEED. TO. KNOW. or else invest in a defilutator. Anyone know who has rolling admissions? A lot of the websites dont say either way. Maybe Vandy? Emory? UNC? Anyone? Help me. Xanex refill, done!
  13. May be behind the curve here, but the Swedish film "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo". Holy hell, I watched it last night and for 2.5 hours I didnt think about grad school. This is no small feat as I'm sure Jesus could come back to earth again and I'd still think about grad school. So yeah, watch it! It's intense and dark and superbly directed!
  14. What happens if your transcripts are sent by the application deadline? Do you die?
  15. Awesome! It's kind of my thing. Anyone else out there? And Riotbeard, what schools, if you know, have the best reputation in legal research? I've always heard WUSTL, Vanderbilt, UVA, and UPENN.
  16. Weird, my ETS account says a report was sent to USC on 10/27 but my on my USC login it says that they are not in receipt of the scores. eh???
  17. How do you know when ETS has sent your scores?
  18. No this is overall averages, not for history only.
  19. How accurate are these averages? Anyone? Taken from : http://testprep.about.com/od/thegretest/a/Private_U_GRE_Scores.htm Average GRE Scores for the Top Private Universities Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT): Verbal: 580 Quantitative: 796 Writing: 5.3 Stanford University: Verbal: 590 Quantitative: 780 Writing: 4.8 California Institute of Technology (CalTech): Verbal: 600 Quantitative: 780 Writing: 5.0 Duke University: Verbal: 600+ Quantitative: 600+ Writing: 4.5 University of Chicago: Verbal: 580+ Quantitative: 780+ Writing: 4.0+ Northwestern University: Verbal: 600+ Quantitative: 600+ Writing: 5.0+ Washington University in St. Louis: Verbal: 617 Quantitative: 601 Writing: 5.0 Johns Hopkins University: Verbal: 650 Quantitative: 710 Writing: 4.8 Rice University: Verbal: 610 Quantitative: 750 Writing: 5.0 Emory University: Verbal: 500-800 Quantitative: 500-800 Writing: 4.0-6.0 University of Notre Dame: Verbal: 680 Quantitative: 763 Writing: 5.3 Vanderbilt University: Verbal: 562 Quantitative: 772 Writing: 4.8
  20. Anyone out there interested in legal history? (echo, echo....)
  21. Okay, everyone should be finishing up their applications, so let's start talking and comparing. I am applying a million schools. Phd only. Harvard UPENN UNC-Chapel Hill Duke Northwestern Vanderbilt Emory University of Chicago University of South Carolina NYU Columbia University of Illinois University of Michigan University of Virginia Georgetown Boston College UG GPA: 3.65; UG Major (History) GPA: 3.7 Law school GPA: 86.77 GRE: Verbal: 620, Quantative: 640, Writing: 5.0 LET'S TALK. I have gone through this entire process completely in the dark. No old professors, etc, have desired to guide me. So maybe some of y'all can help me! I am very interested in everyone's "credentials" .... let's play the compare game!
  22. We shall post! I am interested in American legal history as it relates to the ideas and philosophies that served as the impetus to women gaining their legal rights. So basically - legal & women's history.
  23. Anyone applying to University of Maryland GSAS? If so, do you guys know their average (2009 or 2010) GRE scores and GPA? I'm applying to get a PhD in History.
  24. Damnit RDX, why'd you have to be a genius! :::::Deflates:::::: lol!
