Oh, good, thanks! Half of my applications say incomplete because of a transcript from summer school abroad. Uh, well, those courses are listed on my law school transcript. Gah. So thanks for reassuring me; i was paranoid that my applications wouldnt even be considered since that one transcript is non-existent.

If you have a missing transcript or a missing LOR, do they still forward all your materials to the department or do they just throw all your shit in the trash and forget it?
  3. You have nothing to worry about. The GRE is a "soft factor" ... it really is bogus. I've always heard that as long as you get over the 1200 hump (which you've have), the GRE doesn't matter at all. It's just a sorry excuse for a guard-keeper. Your GPA is stellar, in both UG and your Master's program. You are going to be just fine!
  4. i agree w/ natsteel. numbers arent EVERYTHING. not at all. and it's so easy to get discouraged on this site. when i first joined, for a few days, i wallowed in my inadequacies. but you know, you've got attributes that no one else on this forum could even dream of having. you are you. and that's not some pie-in-the-sky bullshit line either; it's true. and as long as you accentuated what makes YOU YOU in your personal statement, your imperfect scores seem to fade in importance. (this was meant for me, too! lol)
  5. This is precisely the reason why I have told no one, not even my family. I annoy myself enough; I don't need anyone else annoying me.
  6. I looked to my left. I immediately and fervently wished that I'd looked to my right. There was a large green tree. Its branches looked contorted from the wind, but there wasn't even a breeze. A single, luscious pear hung from the highest branch. Unfortunately for my starving stomach, the trunk of the tree was crawling with enormous spiders. Undaunted, I reached for the pear, and upon grazing it with my fingertips, it turned black, shriveled on the vine, and released a pungent cloud of milky smoke.
  7. that's a good idea! i doubt she'll respond again, but it's worth a try! thanks, y'all.
  8. Well now I just don't know what to do. Insert puzzled face. I am pretty much desperate to get into this program because they have a STRONG focus on legal history. So I don't want to do ANYTHING that may jeopardize my acceptance. I definitely do not want to change my SOP; that just seems like a bit much at this point. I have this fear though, that the professor that wrote me will ask the others if I contacted them. And if I hadn't, that might look shitty. But on the other hand, it could look so very odd that I'm writing these people after the app, cuz, like I said, I didn't mention them whatsoever. Oh lord...Tums please...
  9. So I emailed the professor that I desire to study under a few months ago. I got a response yesterday! In the email, the professor listed other professors in the department that have similar interests as my own. She mentioned that I should "include references to some of the other people in the department with whom you'd like to work. Good matches for your interests would also be . . . " SO my question is this: Since I've already submitted the personal statement, I cannot include these other professors she named as "references." So, should I write these professors? And say what? Professor XYZ said that I should contact you? What do I say after that? I mean it seems kinda strange, as I sit down to actually write the emails, to correspond with someone AFTER the application has been submitted and in which, they were never mentioned. HELP!!!
  10. If they know that you're simply and plainly not up to snuff, why not go ahead and reject us in december/january? I dont understand why they hold on to those like me that apply to Harvard when there's no way in hell they'd admit them... ??
  11. I dont remember if the deadline was the 1st or the 15th. If it was the 1st, I probably submitted it on the 28th or 29th of November. If the deadline was the 15th, then probably around the first of December.

    Oh, that's wonderful news. Blargh.
  13. RDX, do you know if Dr. Penningroth is accepting any new students?
  14. So RDX, if you don't think it's the funding issue, what do you think it is? They wanna be kind to us and break our hearts sooner rather than later. I mean, as we all know, prolonging heart break only makes it worse...
  15. Yep, I am... Earlier today, I re-re-re-checked that I had received a confirmation email from them. Tell me, why is Northwestern your first choice? (It's high up there for me, too)
  16. Vanderbilt has a really bizarre interface. It was difficult to get through. Also, they want you to send two official transcripts from each school. And damn if my schools don't charge ridic amts for each. But I guess I cannot complain too much as there was no app fee if you submitted it online.
  17. balderdash - i suppose its better to be passe than to have an interest that no one else in the entire grad school shares... ack.
  18. I think this is the most plausible reason. Since I'm new to this whole process, are you accepted and then notified on funding or are you notified of each at the same time?
  19. Yes, and no. I'm nervous but not as much as I thought I would be. I guess because in the back of my mind, I keep telling myself that my app was pushed through so quickly by virtue of its pure shittiness.
  20. best answer ever. I'm so ready for the day when some defendant, in response to her saying, "I'm smarter than you," to bust out with her academic track record in comparison his/hers. Oh, I will relish the day! As for me, I'm starting Mad Men all over again and smoking. These things go hand in hand.
  21. Wonder why things are "faster" this go-round?
