  1. I think it will stay as "submitted" until a decision has been made. My status is still listed as "submitted" even tho I know it's been reviewed since I've been called in for an interview!
  2. Hey everyone! I recently got invited for an interview at Teachers College--my top choice! It's for the doctoral program in Social Studies ed. Has anyone else gotten an interview? Or know how they use interviews (for funding, interviewing shortlisted students, or do all students receive an interview)? Questions to expect? I understand different programs use them for different reasons and the likelihood of acceptance varies, but any insight would be great esp. in terms of education programs.
  3. Hey everyone, Noticed there's no thread for TC and thought I'd get one going...which programs are people applying to? Have you heard back yet?
  4. Hey everyone, I have an interview at one of my top choice doctoral programs and I know they're going to ask me about my research interests. I'm wondering how specific my answer should be? I'm not sure how specific and concrete my research interests should be at this point. Obviously, I addressed my interests in my personal statement but they're still pretty broad. Any suggestions on how to respond to this question?
  5. Hi! I realize this is a year old, but I've been looking for this exact situation across the boards and haven't been successful. I heard back from TC last week re: an interview for the social studies ed program. How did your interview go? How was it set up? Any insight would be so helpful! Thanks!

  8. Any word on Northwestern or when their decisions will (or in the past have been) be released? Im dying over here.
  9. I got a phone call from American last night saying they needed a copy of my official transcripts (applicants were allowed to upload unofficial ones for now) saying that they needed them for funding/scholarship consideration. While it could merely (and probably) just be a formality, the optimistic side of me is hoping that it's a good sign. Anyone else in this boat or have any insight?
  10. I'm applying to to both History (with a concentration in Latin America) MA programs and Latin American studies programs. Does anyone know if there is a considerable difference between the two? Admissions criteria more stringent on one over the other?
  11. Thanks a lot, this was very helpful!
  12. According to all the programs I'm applying to decisions are made and sent out by early-mid March. However, after browsing this forum I found that many people got decisions before then. As someone who is new to the application process, I was just wondering what I should expect. I know it varies by school, but I was hoping someone had some insight on this? Secondly ,I've read a few of the discussion threads on language requirements. I'm applying to LA studies/History programs with fluency in Spanish (I'm a native speaker) and near-fluency in Portuguese (took courses in college, then taught English in Brazil). How much will this actually help my chances in getting in? Will it make up for my mediocre GRE scores? I'm applying to top 20 schools, and would just like to know if I should be expanding my search. Thanks in advance!
  13. My focus is on US-Latin American relations--I want to study the region's political, social and economic history to gain a better understanding of its current political systems, while simultaneously analyze America's involvement in, or impediment to, its political development (ie development of democracy, or lack thereof, in the region). Though NW isn't known for its Latin American studies program, it offers an interesting interdisciplinary cluster initiative that focuses on economic, political and cultural power in Latin America. It's just a good 'fit' for me and what I want to study.
  14. Hello all, Is anyone else applying to Northwestern's phD program? It's my first choice school and I'm getting awfully anxious about it!
