  1. I keep getting asked (from just about everyone I talk to), "Do you know where you are going yet?" No. I haven't heard a response from a single school out of the ten I applied to. Come on people. Give it some time. (Heck, I think to myself... geez, I just hope I get to go.)
  2. I am tired of people acting like a masters is second rate to a PhD. They are just different. I am graduating with a chemical engineering degree from a top 20 program and persuing a M. Eng in Biomedical Engineering. I don't want to end up in research or academia. My goal is to have a happy career in industry. The best route to that is a masters and NOT a PhD. I wish people would stop acting as if a PhD would be too hard, or that I am getting a masters because I can't get into a PhD program directly. Different degrees have different purposes. Thanks for the rant.
  3. Twilight Saga (Don't judge me...)
  4. I have a week until I must survive my two largest finals in one day. This either means, I won't check the status of my applications for a week or I will obcess over them rather than studying. While I would hope for the first, I expect the latter will reign. lol.
  5. Well, It is far from cold here. It's t-shirt and flip flop weather, granted to a true floridian it is ALWAYS flip flop weather. Its funny how you will see people all bundled up in every pieve of clothing they own and yet they freeze their toes off in their flip flops.(It is only "cold" for a couple weeks a year, but it does normally get chilly) Plus our football team will be back in tip top shape next year. If you get in, MAKE SURE TO BUY SEASON FOOTBALL TICKETS!!! They go on sale early in the summer. Even if you don't go to all the games, you can sell your extra tickets for a pretty decent profit. I LOVE UF. I hope you get in, because it is a wonderful school. While I hope to go out of state ( and brave the cold winters of the north) for my masters, I will always bleed Orange and Blue. Good luck. Also, If you'd like, you can let me know after you get in and Ill give you all the insider information on where to live and what not.
  6. On the same idea as schools telling you they will update a site, I was told that I would recieve a decision in 4 to 6 weeks and it has now been 7 weeks since they notified me. Id rather they just not tell me anything then to get my hopes up for no reason. I just hope to hear before Christmas. (Granted this is a reach school, and Id rather have no response rather than a early rejection.)
  7. Yes, I am indeed from Florida. I go to UF and I was born and raised in central Florida.
  8. I think I am in a similar situation. I don't have the best undergrad record. I have some experience, but lack research and have a lack luster GPA. I still went ahead and applied to some great highly ranked schools. I think most of those average GPAs are calculated using the PhD candidates (which is by far more competitive due to funding). I applied to 10 schools and hope to get in to at least one. I would say apply where you want to go and hope for the best.
  9. I am so excited to hear that a school has started replying. I too am applying for a Masters program, but in Biomedical engineering. I hope to start hearing back soon too. Penn is supposed to tell me by Friday, but I think they lied to me. They sent me an email on Oct. 8th saying my application was submitted to the department and from that point it typically takes 4-6 weeks to make a decision. Friday is the 6 week mark. Congrats on getting in! I hope to have the same excitement soon. (As for the aid, I bet you won't hear about that for a while, especially as a masters candidate)
  10. I am waiting it out too. All of my applications (10 schools) were completed and submitted by the first week of October. I am applying for a Masters in Biomedical Engineering. Being that it is a masters rather than a PhD, I won't be called for interviews and a decision will be made on my application alone. I hope to start hearing back soon, but I know that the decision dates for the schools I applied to range from November to April. I got an email from Penn on October 8th saying that my application was submitted to the department and I should hear back in about 4-6 weeks. Well, friday is 6 weeks. I may be going a little crazy. My massive kinetics test tomorrow has been keeping my mind off of it for the most part. ( I am doing my BS in Chemical Engineering.) I hope to have one acceptance before Christmas, although I doubt that I will hear either way from anyone by then. Its just a nervous waiting game now...
