I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts about what it means to be waitlisted past the 15h. Does this mean they've gone to the waitlist and are now deciding again? Should I wait it out until Monday before making contact again? I know some programs can keep you waiting through the summer, but this is not one of those programs. Any insight?

I'm just going to ask it. Why would you pay for an MA in art history? Getting into a program with funding is a completely different story, but on a very pragmatic level (away from all the gushing humanist stuff), why would you invest 30,000+ in a field where the average starting salary starts in the mid-30s? I know there are exceptions to the rule, but I think you're smart for being scared of the cost of an MA. It looks like I'm going to have to get an MA at this point, but it will be on the cheap at an in-state public school. I don't know, though. What about working in an art library?

I'm waitlisted, but while waiting I am sort of asking the same questions. I went to a small liberal arts college in the middle of nowhere for undergrad, and I'm not too sure I can bare the isolation from major cultural institutions again (although I realize I'm undercutting Mass MoCA and The Clark a bit). I'm not sure what I think of their methodology and sparse course offerings, but the language training appears to be rather rigorous. How true is the Williams Mafia mythology? How are graduates getting major positions in museums with the current trend of institutions requiring a PhD? I realize I am just rephrasing your questions - here's hoping someone can provide more information for us! Curious!

Will the MA be the terminal degree for you? Consider whether or not you would want to go into debt at this point in your academic career.

I'm desperate to feel in control of my wait-list status. I scoped out the four people who were offered admission (I know, sort of crazy) to find out at least one of them plans on during down the offer to my top choice. I had previously learned in phone conversation that the wait-list is made up of three possible candidates. Should I be emailing a previous contact at the school to let them know that I'm still interested? Contact another faculty member to express my interest in their work? I feel like I've come too close to do nothing! Advice?

Toronto? UNC Chapel Hill? Delaware? Williams? Anyone have any inside information on the first two, especially? Thanks!

I'm bumping this thread, now two years later, in hopes that a conversation can be re-started. I'm currently on a short wait-list for Fall 2011 and am hoping there's still some hope of getting off of it. Do the two people who posted results mind sharing their intentions on whether or not they are attending? Santa Cruz is my absolute first choice.

I'm wondering the same thing. I don't really understand the staggered notification process. Isn't that what the wait list is for?

I wouldn't be surprised if we heard the week of the 21st at this point. I guess they don't technically owe us a response until then, but jeez. My subfield is Arts of Africa. Without thinking, I just applied with the same material for the MA in Art History. Good luck!

I'm A-L, and I have not heard anything either. Did you apply for a "second choice" / MA? I'm thinking that's why I have not heard yet.

Maybe press for more clarification? I was rejected last week, if that helps.
