  1. Hey guys, starting graduate school in the fall and I'm trying to work out a tentative budget for everything but I had a question about stipends. Say my monthly salary is said to be $2,100, how much of that can I expect to have in my pocket after taxes and whatnot? I was talking to my parents and they said to expect to have a little less than 1/3 of it taken out so I am just curious because if so my budget needs some serious reworking, ha. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
  2. GPA is fine, I would try and get your GRE Quant above 760 though, 780+ would be ideal. Everything else looks like you'd be perfectly qualified for any of those schools/
  3. Will most likely be at CWRU this coming fall, anyone else?
  4. just got this response: "Thank you for your e-mail. The department is hoping to announce decisions within ca. 1-2 weeks; thank you for your continued patience!" 1-2 weeks?!?!
  5. I applied to the MS leading to PhD. Did you get invited for an interview? I wasn't so I'm not really expecting to get it but I still would like to know either way. But on the results page it did look like a few people were admitted early on and then last week someone who applied for PhD was offered a Masters instead so I'm not sure whats going on
  6. I haven't heard a word either. The said mid-December that my application had been sent for review but still nothing. I emailed them this morning asking for an update but everyone I email forwards me to a different person so I'm not sure if I'm gonna get a solid answer.
  7. I just saw that someone got off the wait list at one of the programs I am wait listed at, my top choice. I'm not sure if this should make me hopeful or make me loose hope altogether....
  8. I was also waitlisted at my top choice. They told me I should hear by "early April" but my second best offer wants a decision by March 31st, and I definitely can't give up that offer in hopes of the waitlist panning out.
  9. I am considering contacting the graduate coordinator about a week extension so I can at least visit school B. I'm just worried that I still wouldn't have heard from the wait list at School C and essentially be stuck in the same situation but without the option for asking for an extension....ughh
  10. Anyone have an input? I'm kinda desperate here haha
  11. Ok so here is a brief history of my situation. Today I was accepted to my 3rd program at School A. I really wasn't all too enthusiastic about this specific school until I visited a few weeks ago for their open house weekend and now am really excited about the offer. The other two schools I have been accepted to aren't too high on my list but I still have yet to visit one of them, School B. The tricky thing is, School A needs a decision by March 31st, however, I won't be visiting School B until the weekend after. One of my big concerns is that after visiting School A, a school that I wasn't really considering until after the visit, I know just how important these visitation weekends can be. Also, I have already had the school book my flights and travel accommodations. To add more madness, I have yet to hear back from 3 schools. Now, I am not too fussed about two of those schools however, I was wait listed at the third, School C. I was told by School C that I can expect to hear back from them "early April", of course taken with a grain of salt. As of now, even probably with visiting School B, School C is the only school on my list that I would choose over School A. I already asked my POI at School A if it would be possible to have an extension until April 15th, and I explained that I would make a final decision as soon as I heard back from the last of my schools, (mainly School C, although I didn't tell them the specific school). However, he told me that there was nothing he could do about the deadline and that it was department policy so that they could accept another student if I turn them down. I understand the whole April 15th CGS agreement and I also understand their logic behind wanting an early decision, however, I really do not want to make a final decision until I have the final verdict from School C and have visited School B (just in case). I also don't want to keep nagging School A about wanting to hear back from all my schools as I am afraid I will come off a bit entitled or something. Both School A and School C are ranked next to each other so I don't know if it would be ok for me to contact School C and politely let them know about my other offer and the deadline (??) to perhaps speed things up a bit, but I know things can be very unpredictable when it comes to wait lists and I don't want to annoy them either. Any advice on what to do from here on out would be greatly appreciated!
  12. So has anyone started to make any final decisions? I still have 2 more schools and 1 wait list to hear back from but my top school (as of now) wants a decision by the end of March. The problem is that I won't hear back from the school that I am wait listed at until early April, which also happens to be the only school I would pick over my current top choice. Hmmm

Don't miss out on Swensons either. Best. Fast. Food. Ever.
  14. Won't be here for grad school but I'm a current student. Let me know if you have any questions and I can try and help!
  15. thanks for the into gatorgirl. I wonder if the same goes with the PhD applications....did they mention if decisions would email vs postal mail by any chance?
  16. So I just got off the phone with a potential PI at a school I just interviewed at (they were not at the visitation weekend so I set up a phone interview). They mentioned that they are still waiting to hear back on funding which would determine whether or not they will be taking on a new student this coming fall. At the end of our conversation they mentioned to keep in touch over the next month as they figure out the funding issue. My question is how exactly should I go about this? I don't want to sound pesky and email them every other week asking if they got funding but I'm not sure how else I would keep in touch....perhaps ask a few more questions regarding their current research projects?? Any ideas/thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  17. I was notified through email and then received a snail mail letter a few days after. My status still says "you're application has been sent to the committee for review" though, so it might depend on your program?
  18. I sure hope not, I thought they usually did an interview weekend though
  19. Has anyone had their application sent for review for Boston? My application was complete in November but they said we would be notified when it was sent to the committee for review and according to last year's results people started to hear back in January...
  20. For anyone who applied to Case Western, a professor told me that their Open House invitations will be going out in the next few days
  21. just got an acceptance to Boulder! so relieved to get a positive response
  22. I applied to Boulder as well, was hoping that would be an early decision as I had all my stuff in mid-November
