  1. Congratulations, Byronlover! What a serendipitous status check!
  2. I just noticed that someone posted an acceptance via website. When I logged in, it said my decision was still in progress. Congratulations to whoever got in! If you care to discuss, did you receive an email notifying you of the decision being available on the site, or did you just randomly check? Congrats again!
  3. Good luck with that! And if you do end up going, let me know so we can say hi in person. :-)
  4. CONGRATULATIONS!!! That's so exciting! What other school have you been accepted to? Are you planning to go to the March 31/April 1 visiting session?
  5. Thanks for clarifying, Intextrovert. :-) I do second your comment that sometimes people aren't notified about waitlists (I wasn't either when I applied two years ago), so an acceptance (or rejection) can come out of nowhere late in the game. The possibility was what I was mainly pointing out, as well as the fact that Emily hasn't been rejected yet.
  6. Emily, don't start worrying yet. I found it encouraging to check out the results board from previous years. It seems like it frequently happens that, in April, after not hearing for so long, people are suddenly accepted to their dream school. I'd say, if you haven't been rejected, take that as a good sign! :-)
  7. I'm waiting for lit too. It seems like everyone applying for lit programs included UW in their list of schools. The good news, in my mind, is that at least they told us when to expect an answer. This way, it might be more nerve-wracking next week, but we don't have to wait indefinitely. (I saw that Purdue waits until, like, April for lots of people - argh!)
  8. Crutch, if it makes you feel better, I was 0/6 two years ago. This year, I was actually AFRAID to apply, because I didn't think I could handle the unanimous rejections I got before. Since then, I took the GREs (the first time I only applied to schools that didn't require the tests), honed writing samples, did some school research, and basically matured in my desires and articulation of my area. It helped so much! Don't be anxious - I bet you've really improved since last year. :-)
  9. Thanks! My field is Early Modern, and it was Gina Bloom who contacted me. She was very nice! What's your area, Crutch? I wouldn't be too worried yet, since, judging from the results board, not many people have been contacted at this point.
  10. Hey everyone, I got a call this morning and was told I was admitted and would be funded up to six years. I am being understated when I say that this is beyond what I imagined in my wildest dreams. Good luck to everyone, and keep the hope up.
  11. Thanks, guys! I don't want to sound obnoxious, but I feel like if I can do it, there's hope for every other serious candidate out there. I woke up this morning feeling like a total loser, and then got the shock of my life from both Pittsburgh and UC Davis (which is also providing guaranteed funding). Also, I should mention that I applied to PhD programs two years ago also, so this is my second time around. I was summarily rejected that time from all six schools I applied to. This time was my "do or die" year, where I was to find out if I had a future in academia, and I definitely did not expect anything much. Anyway, Lolopixie, I'm sorry for not mentioning publications. The only publication I have is in a mediocre pedagogy journal, and the article is about teaching, not literature. Something else I should have mentioned is that I've been an adjunct instructor of composition and liberal studies for the past two years. Good luck everyone. :-)
  12. I forgot to say that I also unexpectedly got accepted to one of my "long shot" schools, so I will probably be turning Pitt down, which will open a spot there. :-)
  13. Hi! I'm shocked that I'm saying this, but Pittsburgh accepted me and nominated for a fellowship. Here are my stats: BA from mediocre liberal arts school, GPA 3.799 MA from mediocre university, GPA 3.95 GRE: Verbal 770, Quant 690, AW 4.5 GRE Subject: 680 Area: Early Modern If there's any other information you would like, let me know.
  14. I was going to ask the same thing! Judging from previous results, it looks like Davis accepts a bunch of people first and then does their rejections later.
  15. Thanks for the info, Lyonessrampant! And don't worry - I was only talking about myself. :-) I'm not very confident in this whole process, so I really would be happy to go to even my bottom choice. And I'm thrilled that Kansas isn't your top choice, because it gives me more of a chance!!
  16. I was also waitlisted. Lyonessrampant, congratulations! Would you mind sharing some info about your area of interest, publications, test scores, etc.? Honestly, I was just happy not to be rejected outright, and I'd be thrilled to go anywhere, including Kansas. :-)
