Hi Bonkers! I'm in a very similar situation - my boyfriend of 6 years works in finance in NYC and I'm moving to Texas to pursue my PhD in English Literature. He's been extremely supportive about the entire process, and plans to eventually move to Texas with me, but like you, I can't help but feel anxious.. All I can say is that if you both are committed to each other, try to stay as optimistic as possible. You could stay in the same city and still break up, or live halfway across the country and remain together - just take it one step at a time. The best advice I've received from people in long distance relationships (and I have two friends who were together - very happily - while she lived in New Jersey and he lived in Japan) is to always have plans to see each other again in the future. Even if it is in a couple months or more, know exactly when you will see each other again, so that you have something to be excited about. Good luck to you, and congratulations on your acceptance!

I just turned down a fully funded offer from U of F's PhD in English Lit. Hopefully that helps some of the people here! Good luck

Hi everyone, So, I checked my status online again (as I do every morning obsessively...haha) and I found my status finally changed from "in progress" to "not accepted." So if you've been waiting forever for your notification - good luck! And hopefully you did better than I did. (Though, as I said in my post on the results boards, I'm kind of fine with this rejection since I've already received admits to two schools in nicer areas with more funding!) Good luck!!

It says in the FAQs section of the website that: "We intend to invite our top applicants to the campus before we require them to make a decision." So, I think that's us My assumption is that since it is such a small program, and they provide funding to all PhD students, they want to be sure of our decision before making a formal offer.

Hi! I was thinking about starting a similar forum, so I'm happy that someone did! I'm also attending the SMU campus visit. My research areas of interest are Victorian literature (particularly the novel/sensation fiction), visual studies / visual cultural, and feminist theory. I originally applied to SMU because of Beth Newman's incredible work in all three fields, so I'm really looking forward to visiting the school and possibly meeting her. Still waiting to hear back from 6 programs, but given the generous stipend offered from SMU, right now its my first choice amongst the programs I've been accepted to. Interested to meet you and the rest of the prospective students
