Hi all, I am a Canadian heading over to the states for a PhD. I did some research and it seems that Canadians do not need to apply for visas to study in USA. However, I've also read that we still need to complete the I-20 form. Is that all? I just need to fill out the I-20 and I'm all set to go?

Bumping this thread.

I think CIHR notices come WAY later. In July if I remember correctly?

Did you receive the decision letter via regular mail or was it sent express? (I am pretty sure I know the answer)
It came via regular mail.

Thanks!
Yep! You out-of-towners will probably get it tomorrow.

Hi all,
I'm looking to improve the layout of my CV. I have a few real ones that I had found online that I used to model my current one, but I have since done some more things so I need to expand some categories and cut some things out.
Do any of you have a good, real academic CV that is available online? Preferrably in the natural sciences/life & medical sciences/public health areas?
Specific things I'm looking to add and unsure of which categories they fall under are:
-workshop participation (e.g. as a contributing stakeholder, not those training ones)
-awarded travel grants
-published abstracts of conference presentations (these ones are odd... I've seen people list the abstract AND the presentation. Is this normal? I ask because it seems like listing the same item twice)
Thanks!

Hey everyone, I emailed the office and they said the letters were mailed yesterday! Maybe those of you who live in Ottawa will receive it today?
-
If they're supposedly mailing them today, I don't think we'll hear until Thursday at the earliest. Who know how long it'll take for the mail to make their way to the post office from the NSERC mail room? lol

Nothing for me either! Tomorrow? lol

I did WAY better than I thought I would, mostly because over Christmas I got incredibly paranoid and depressed and convinced myself that I was an absolute fraud and nobody would take me. I blame the insomnia. Feeling much better now! I got in at all four schools that I applied to, and had started a bidding war between the first two before I even heard from the others.
I also did way better financially than I was expecting. I was hoping for a four year package between $80 000 and $90 000, and ended up with an insane package worth $127 000. I cried when I saw the funding offer. Life is good!
Congrats!!! I didn't know Canadian universities were that generous!

Belated congrats for breaking the 7k members mark!
-
That's good to know! I wonder how long it'll take them to actually mail the things.
-
Is this Dalla Lana by any chance?
-
Nothing in the mail today!
-
I haven't heard yet either. lol

Congrats on those great admits! For epi, it depends on which subfield you're interested in. Do you know what you would like to do if you were to go into epi?

Has anyone heard from Columbia PhD programs yet? I emailed them a week ago asking when decisions will be made and they said within 2 weeks. I guess we'll hear next week.

I just heard back from my department, and they stated that all applicants (regardless of whether or not they applied through their respective departments) should hear individually through Canada Post. So I guess it's turning into a frantic checking of my "physical" inbox as well as my "electronic" inbox!
You mean they have already sent out the decisions?
Funny admission stories?
