  1. Selected for an ETA in Malta! Any other Malta fulbrighters on here? I am not onthe spreadsheet but I will ad myself
  2. Congratulations to those of you who were awarded grants today! And to the alternates -- keep the faith and remember that you have accomplished so much just by making it this far. I am sure you get tired of hearing it but I mean it! To those of you who were once told that the New York offices were waiting for budgetary approval before notifying you...how long did that take?
  3. Sorry to hear that Good attitude though! Did you hear today? Just trying to see if anyone was notified today. Always gives me hope that the rest of us may hear something too.
  4. Hi Y'all, I saw some mention of a Peabody facebook group for next year. Is this a program specific group? If so, for what program? Thanks!
  5. I'm still waiting! Plenty of people still in the dark!
  6. Does that make anyone else super-anxious?
  7. I had to do that the other day just to remind myself again why I was waiting in the first place!!
  8. Question - do you think this could mean good things for other non SSA countries who have not been notified? I don't understand the process enough to know if this could mean good news all around.
  9. Hi Everyone, I am a long time lurker who has just gotten up the courage to post. I too am waiting on notification for an ETA and am rather restless. The other day, I was told another 1-2 weeks (though the week before I was told that I would hear that very week so I have just given up, totally). It's been really hard waiting, but I'm doing the best I can. I defended my honors thesis weeks ago so I don't have much to do, which doesn't help as it just gives me more time to refresh my e-mail. Over, and over, and over. To ecpurcell: I had a very similar moment that you did. Recently I learned that I had been holding my apartment for next year too long without a deposit and that I would lose it or lose my expensive deposit, either way (I thought I would know by now, ya know!?). I also got into the #1 grad school for my field with an amazing scholarship and for a long time thought I would turn down Fulbright if I got it. Things changed and I decided that if I got it I would take it, but that's not my point. My point is that everything happens for a reason. You getting that new job that you have been working on for years is a great blessing and you've gotta follow your gut. I admire you for making the tough decision. Many criticized me when I said I might turn down fulbright months ago and it was hard to listen to their opinions. In the end, doing the best thing for you is one of the most liberating moments of life. Congratulations on your job and I wish you the best of luck! I just want to let y'all know that the comfort that this forum has brought me has been great. I hope that we can all continue to support each other as the final notifications go out. I know I'm gonna need it. Thanks
  10. Thank you both! I truly appreciate your advice.
  11. Hi everyone, I am new to this forum but I cannot believe how incredibly helpful it is! I have been browsing it for some time now and have finally found the courage to ask a question. So, I am a junior in undergrad right now. I know that I have lots of time before it's time to think about grad school but I like take care of this stuff kind of early to avoid lots of stress. I am a political science major at a top 50 university. I want to get an MPP in Education Policy. My absolute first choice is Vanderbilt's MPP program through their Peabody School. It's the #4 program in the country, so I'm kind of nervous. I e-mailed the department and they said their average GRE scores are in the 1150 range and their minimum is 1000. On my first ever practice test I got a 530 in quant and a 640 in verbal. I know I will improve some, but I am scared that this is still not good enough (I'm sort of in shock that their average is so low. Could this be?) I have a fantastic GPA, I am in the honors progam at my school, and have done tons of education policy research, including working at a think tank on a project with some policy experts. I also have teaching experience and will have fantastic reccomendations. I also plan to complete an honors thesis on rural education policy. (It feels like I'm bragging...that's not the point, I promise!) Ok, so assuming I bring up the scores a bit...will they still inhibit me from getting into some really good schools? I know the tops schools' quant levels are very high and I'm not sure I can make it that far. I am not a great test taker but I do extremely well in school. I guess my bottom line question is : How much are these scores going to hurt me, assuming I bring them up some before May when I plan to takt he GRE? I can't wait to hear your responses. Thanks in advance, everyone! Best, Melissa
