  1. I don't know what to think, except that he must have some awesome never-needs-to-sleep genes. Or maybe he's a Cylon.
  2. He's Houston-bound 2012! http://www.chron.com....com+--+Life%29
  3. Unfortunately not, though I was first on a waitlist for 5 years of funding--no funding the first year.
  4. I'm not sure if it's better to hold out for more funding from a school that I've already been accepted to (waitlisted for first-year funding) or to go ahead and tell them yes. Opinions? I don't want to miss out on a chance for more funding by saying yes too "soon" (soon in quotes 'cause it's April 14).
  5. Just declined Purdue and University of Washington-Seattle. Good luck to Purdue wait-listers...seriously the nicest department ever.
  6. This is a question for the UW-admittees: For those of you without in-state status who are thinking about going, do you have any tricks for funding the first year?
  7. I emailed the DGS today, and he told me that I was rejected. Sad, but not unexpected. However, my ApplyYourself status still doesn't have the "reject" letter posted (he said it was updated on Friday), so it might be useful to email if you really need to know.
  8. I'm in the same boat and emailed the DGS today...I hate to be a pest, but I want to know for sure that I'm a reject before making a decision about my other acceptances.
  9. This morning I declined an unfunded offer from UN-Reno (MA: Literature and the Environment.) Not sure if this helps anyone, but I thought I'd post it anyway!
  10. isa_cl, are you checking the "Apply Yourself" page, or another UVA website? Thanks!
  11. Nope. And it's not like I haven't been compulsively checking either. Big sighhh.
  12. To those who were waitlisted at Iowa, have you heard any news?
  13. Or, "The university I will be attending is more well-endowed." Sorry, I couldn't resist.
  14. Yeah, I emailed today, and that's how I found out the above info. Both were really nice and sincere. Prof. Reed was really honest about the funding situation, which sounds gloomy to say the least, but at least I know now!
  15. About a week and a half after receiving an acceptance to UW's "MA" program (I had applied to the PhD) and a note that funding info would come soon, I had mostly written it off, having not heard back from the DGS. Today, however, I decided to contact the dept. just to be certain that I was an unfunded MA. To my surprise, I was accepted to the MA/PhD but was waitlisted for funding. Not sure what the communication issue with UW is, and why everything is done by postal mail, but if there are any "lurkers" here, I would definitely recommend emailing if you have questions about your acceptance (or status in general.) The reply emails that I received were really cordial.
  16. Like the majority of the replies, I would be responding sooner if I could, but I'm holding onto some stupid hope that I might be accepted from my wait-list school and/or the schools that haven't notified me one way or the other, yet.
  17. Maybe it means, "Congrats, you're at the top of our "accepted and desired list"? I don't really get the wave thing, but I feel like they're betting that the many of the first round acceptances won't accept, so then the funding can be handed off to others. Perhaps by including the "first round" note, they want you to hold off from accepting elsewhere until funding info has been released. I am largely clueless about this whole process, though, so don't mind my blabbering.
  18. I was waitlisted, but I wasn't the one who posted on the results board. I think they have an issue with funding right now, or something. The email implies that no acceptances will be given without funding, and that a small number of acceptances have been made, but that the school is expecting some of those that were accepted to decline admission.
  19. Thanks! I was informed by email a little while ago, with the first batch, on Mar. 2.
  20. Just wondering if any Purdue admits have heard back from prospective advisors?
  21. Agreed, Woolfie. As an aside, I think part of the reason why schools are taking so long to provide any admits at all is that funding is on the line right now, and God knows our GOP governors couldn't care less about education.
  22. Wanderlust, Thanks for the extensive reply!! I've always been expecting some debt should the decision be IU, (I originally applied as an MA candidate, because I thought from the online literature that they offered both an MA-track and PhD-track. I was then contacted and told that the MA was no longer offered (?) and asked if I wanted to be considered for PhD (weird). I saw the note about the first-year funding, but since I'm a resident, I supposed it wouldn't be too bad...I have debt, but it's not debilitating at this point.) Health insurance is a bit of an issue, but I'll try my best to figure something out if it means being able to attend a great school. I wasn't aware of group plans, so I'll take a look at that (I hadn't even thought of this, so big thanks for this note.) I think if I don't get other offers, it'll probably be IU; it's just hard because the other depts. are really great. Thanks for your time + note...and good luck to you on the West Coast. I <3 Santa Cruz!
