Hi, what do you mean by Princeton was earlier than Yale, CUNY or Cornell? Do you mean their application deadlines? I got no notification from Princeton either. Any ideas about CUNY or Johns Hopkins?
-
I know they are separate from UCB's sociocultural anthro so nothing to worry about! the medanthro program is an independent program by itself
-
Hey Irishscientist, Congrats on the waitlist. Don't lose heart, you still have a good chance of admission according to what kateow said. Did they inform you where you stood in the wait-list? I bet even few days ago that you'd definitely get in either UCB or MIT. You don't believe in me, OK!, wait and see. Congrats Kateow on your acceptance to Chicago! I bet you're a super candidate that you got acceptance from most of the schools so far! What is your first choice? Are you a socio, bio or what?
-
My dear friend, Irishscientist, I wouldn't say you're rejected since they made a couple of acceptances in two consecutive days. Please stay tuned and I'm sure you'd get in either Berkeley or MIT and it goes without saying you'd stand a great chance at Harvard too as far as you told me about your proposed project. you're a good fit for these three. Even if you're rejected from Chicago, heaven forbid, it'd be apparently due to the compatibility issues, etc. I just did my NYU's interview and it was so cool. I could say it was more of a connaisance conversation rather than clarification of projects, background, etc. I hope I would hear back from either Yale or NYU with good news instead of rejection/waitlist. Just letting you all know they'd make the final decisions by the end of THIS WEEK.

Hi Irishscientist, I'm having my NYU interview today. I'm losing all my senses now not because of the interview but for I haven't received any formal acceptance yet. I think I should be put in Vita (zone of social abandonment) because I can't do anything these days, merely lurking among the bunch of posts, emails and different anthro departments websites, I couldn't even go the gym last night, however, I ended up no news. Do you think no news is good news or what? fingers crossed you'd hear from Chicago in the next few days. I told you before, I am sure you'd get in both MIT and UCB/UCSF since you are a good fit for them,

Hi Irishscientist, Just saw a post in the results page stating acceptance to Chicago sociocultural anthro. Isn't it you by chance? I hope it's you anyway! Keep us updated! Did you do your HASTS interview? Good luck
-
to those anthros who didn't get an interview from NYU: you're not out yet! they're gonna make their final notifications by the end of next week or so and there's the possibility of acceptance without a prior interview! cheers,
-
anyone has got any interviews from CUNY or NYU yet? I mean in sociocultural.
-
As I posted earlier I did call the Harvard's anthro department and they said they'd make their notifications sometime around end Feb. From what they said, not mentioned straightforwardly tho, I gathered they wouldn't do interviews. Do you know if they conducted interviews last year or what? My friend at Harvard's anthro is in his 7th year and not familiar with the new policies and admissions processes, As the other anthros keep saying, Columbia is the king of tardiness,
-
I'm so sorry to hear it though! do you have any acceptances by now?
-
Hi there, plz tell us how you got your rejection notification? Did you get an email asking you to check your embark or what? did you get the rejection in your email or what? I haven't got any notification yet and as I checked my embark there was nothing mentioned there either, should I take it as a positive sign?
-
Breaking news! (not sure of the reliability tho) Someone has posted their rejection from CUNY grad center in sociocultural anthro in the results page. They seemed to be quite frustrated too. Their rejection dates back to 10! Please excuse my naivete if they tend to tease us! Any news from CUNY grad center? plz keep us updated!

My apologies Irishscientist for I can't reveal my fields of interest and project here. I've become kinda paranoid since I started reading these forums. I'll let you know of them in some private message. You'd stand a GREAT chance in all of these programs if you're already a PhD. That is so interesting that you want to do your second PhD. You know what? I bet you'd get into HASTS and UCB/UCSF. If you don't believe in me, wait and see but don't forget to give me a treat! By the way, UCB/UCSF and MIT/Harvard would be great fits for you. I've not applied to Chicago so I have no reservation for saying this but Chicago wouldn't be your thing even though they're one of the bests in anthro these days. Why haven't you applied to JHU? It's a small department but the intensity and diversity combines well out there! I'm not very familiar with UK schools. I just know a little bit of Oxford. My preferred programs are Yale, NYU, Columbia, CUNY, Princeton and JHU. I've got two rejections so far: Brown and MIT (it's unofficially but established on your previous comments)!

Hi Irishscientist, Could you please tell me more about your background if that is OK with you to publicize it. I'd be happy to hear more of your background privately if possible again. Did you apply to the joint PhD between Berkeley and UCSF? The good thing about Harvard or MIT is you'd have the possibility of cross-registering between both. There are a lot of good academics in both that would help your project. For instance, you could get the supervision of STS faculty at MIT and then take courses with Arthur Kleinman and Good who are experts at traditional healing systems and cross-cultural analyses of health. Duana Fullwiley's work is also magnificant, in my words, in terms of anthro of STS and genetics in particular. If you get into Berkeley, you'd have a lot of great scholars in both fields but my suggestion is to make regular visits to Irvine too. It is cutting-edge indeed. I have a good friend of mine doing her PhD in medanthro there. I like Goerge Marcus' scholarship, however, he is not much of an Irvine fashion. good luck in your endeavor

Hi Anthropologygeek, Could you please tell me more about Yale and NYU's interviews? I did three interviews at Yale last week, which was an acid test. I personally believe my interviews went well. One took longer than an hour and half. I got an interview for NYU for the coming week. I'm extraordinarily tense and out-stressed. I'm kinda numb these days. Could you please tell me ANYTHING that you know about these two schools' interview fashions? I mean how many do they normally take and how would they break their interviewees to their final list. I heard from an interviewer from Yale that they sent out invites to 25 applicants and I assume they would take some 4, 5 final admits. The other guy heard the same thing during their interview too. What about NYU? a bunch of thanks in advance,

I have a friend who's at Irvine's anthropology. When she was comparing Berkeley with Irvine, she mentioned the same thing but still she believed they have a fantastic program with scores of super famous scholars. One should choose between such factors. I would apply to both if they were in East Coast. I gather that Irishscientist is in the field of medanthro. For that reason, the joint program between UCB and UCSF is one of a kind and it does kick ass, the best medical anthropologists in quite diverse fields and with really bright students. I don't assume Chicago would be a superb school for pursuing in medanthro. Harvard has lost its vibrance in medanthro and it is only about the remnant of its past cutting edge nature. I'd tell they should have refreshed their department more with taking up bright junior scholars. Duana Fullwiley does interesting stuff but one should be into her character whatsoever. I'm addressing this last word to Irishscientist, I would make it to Berkeley or MIT against all odds, and minor factors aside, if you get admission from both and you don't care as much as I do about East or West Coast, just get in UCB if you're in medanthro and sociocultural. Lucky you got an interview from HASTS and since I didn't get any myself, I would send you my positive energy to get some official acceptance too,
-
Salaam Bro, nothing is worthy of tabrik at this stage. one may get a lot of interviews but end up with rejections from all. I am really happy that you got two official offers already. I bet you'd get better ones in near future. I gather you're a very competitive applicant. I'm sure you'll get an official offer from Duke too. To be honest with you, I envy why I didn't apply to Duke and UNC, Chapel Hill. I wish we both get in NYU, Allah Yahfazak!
-
Hi dear anthros, I hope it wouldn't get jinxed but I'm going to tell you about the interview I got from NYU. My POI contacted me and we set up an interview for the coming Tuesday. They said they wouldn't be able to make offers to all the candidates who'd be interviewed. I am so tense and clumsy these days, however, my first two choices have come along with two interviews, which is still good news at this stage. Has anyone else got interview from NYU? How is their interview? Thank God at least I'm going to be interviewed once unlike Yale that was an acid test! Please send me your positive energy collectively!
-
Hi Irishscientist, You got an interview from HASTS so you'd stand a great chance of acceptance. I didn't dare to apply to Berkeley. Have you heard anything from them yet? Which one is your first choice? I also want to add that UNC, Chapel Hill is one of the bests in medanthro. McGill is always lauded as one of the competitive medanthro programs but I've never found it interesting. U Michigan, Ann Arbor has good medanthro faculty particularly if your fields of interest in medanthro would intersect with gender, sexuality and women studies. If I were in your shoes, I would rank it like Berkeley, HASTS, Harvard and Chicago among the ones you have applied. That's my personal opinion though! UC Irvine is indeed cutting edge in medanthro and sociocultural anthro, Boston University is also an interesting school to study medanthro but it depends on what exactly you wanna work on, good luck in your endeavor!
-
Oh Dear, Fingers crossed you'd get the first acceptance from Duke which stands as one of your top choices. I think we should cling to the ghosts of all the poeple (informants) of the past, present and future if we want to get in some program during the horrible recession.
-
Have you heard of any notifications from your PhD programs or GWU? Any idea when GWU would release their notifications? Any interviews yet?
-
Hi there, Did you hear from GWU regarding the MA program in sociocultural anthropology or you're already in the second year or what? I've also applied to their MA program with the same mentality as yours. I haven't heard anything from them yet,
-
Hi fellow anthros, anyone applied to Princeton? I'm wondering why nobody seems to be concerned about Princeton! Plz post your updates, cheers,
-
Just like those who got unofficially rejected from Yale by getting no interviews, I've been rejected by HASTS too. Ref: the other forum under HASTS/MIT which has been initiated by myself! Two rejections so far: Brown and HASTS, I wish all the positive energies of the universe would converge to my Yale's admission. If I end up with a rejection from Yale or even a wait-list, I'd be ......................................!
-
OOooooooo my God, That means I'm rejected. I gather HASTS interview has been quite similar to Yale's interview; that is to say, they had called for interviewees before they made rejection notifications! Two rejections so far: Brown and HASTS. What is your last choice darling? I'm sure you'd make it. Don't you give up! Next year we'll apply together if I end up with another rejection or even wait-list from Yale.
