    Carbondale, IL

Hi, I'm finishing up my MA and leaving Carbondale this spring. If anyone is planning on moving here and needs some information feel free to message me or send me an email. I've been here two years and am more than happy to answer any questions.
  2. Seriously? You make a good point about the earning potential, but wouldn't you rather be poor and happy than wealthy and miserable? If I spend the next year working and reapplying I feel like I'll be incredibly bitter and frustrated. The happiest people I know are doing what they've always wanted to do and not letting finances dictate their life. Is it irresponsible? Maybe. Right now I don't know... Besides, isn't taking on an enormous debt the American way? Shouldn't I embrace my cultural legacy?
  3. Hi all, Got into University X (way too much name dropping on this forum... it's a good school, let's leave it at that) but they said they can't offer me any funding. Anyone else in this position? I've started a pro/con list. It looks like this: CON: No longer a member of the Cash Money Millionaires Live in a cardboard house (with newspaper bed of course) Ramen 3 times a day PRO: Start school in the fall Be at a really good program Do what I love I'm leaning towards going. I can always reapply for funding next year and work part-time during the school year, right? Plus it's just money. Why should I postpone my dream for a lack of that? Anyone have another perspective? Someone talk me down from this ledge.
  4. Hey paigemont when did you hear from UIUC? Are you one of the international students who posted a result here?
  5. Wow! Our own private forum! Now I'm going to be spending even more time on here Anyway, I'm so glad to hear someone is getting accepted to all these schools. Congrats! I haven't heard from anyone yet and I'm starting to worry it's not going to work out this year. Is everyone applying for the first time? Any second or third time applicants? One of the big questions I have is what do I do to strengthen my application if I don't get in this year? Any ideas? I haven't given up hope yet but all the programs I applied to are listed as having started contacting people and that doesn't bode well... Good luck to everyone. We'll get through this together!
  6. One of my favorite replies has to be: "All of them." Then just walk away before they can ask a follow up!
  7. That's really cool. Thanks! What's the url of the site? This is especially rad: I wonder if any Radiohead fans know about this discovery....
  8. Where is Pierre when we need him?? Slap those hands! Spread those wings! Feather those bangs! Shake your buns! Now think about your dad! What's your dad like? I want to meet that dad! Doo dah doo doo!

    Anxiety!

    Drinking. No, it's not working.
  10. Oh wow! Did you hear that "Obtuse Corrosion" split 7" they did with "SinCosSinX?" It was incredible. Limited pressing though (I picked one up at their shows). Also one of the guys in "Squirrelplastic Skydiver" is doing a solo project called "The Element Boron." He played a live show with "Unstratified Luther." They released a live ep on a small Estonian label called "arvustustele v
  11. Good one, Dave! (Ooh, you're a legend, Dave).
  12. Great call with Songs: Ohia. I was listening to the song "Tigress" the other night. It's become the theme song for my applications: "it's difficult not to worry about what happens next..." I've also been listening to a lot of Broken Social Scene and Godspeedyoublackemperor!
  13. The greatest television show ever made: "The Wire" It's the only show that can distract me from my applications... it's THAT good!
  14. The other day I called up the admissions department. A lady answered the telephone with, "Hello." What does this mean? Am I accepted? Am I rejected? I was too scared to ask her to clarify! In a nervous panic I dialed another school's admissions department. The man who answered said the same thing! I immediately hung up. I called every school I applied to and they all answered the same way. This must be a sign. I'm sure of it. My theory so far is this: if you are either accepted or rejected when you call the admission's office they will answer with a "Hello." Has anyone else had a similar experience? I'm going to do some more research on this and let you know when I figure it all out. P.S. It's only been a week! I don't know how much more of this I can take...
