  1. Wow, I don't recall seeing anything to that effect on their FAQ. What a bummer. You'd think they'd do what most other programs do and take to-be-completed units into consideration.
  2. No! I just checked my husband's spam mail, just in case he missed it, and there's neither an acceptance nor a rejection. Both of us have been planning for a rejection so it would be nice if they got it over with so we could properly look ahead to next year.
  3. Exactly one week until the middle of April. Come on, CSUEB!
  4. Alright East Bay... it's early April! Let's get this over with.
  5. Rejected - 3.31 1st BA (Psych), 4.0 2nd BA in CSD. 3 years work experience in SPED. GRE: 160V, 153Q, 3.0AW.
  6. CONGRATS!!! What fantastic news!!
  7. Seriously? That's terribly inconvenient unless you happen to be their undergrad and knew it was coming!
  8. Competitive to get into, or competitive to be applying from once completed? For admissions, Portland State's post-bacc program is noncompetitive. You apply, you get in. Of course, there's the usual rush to get into the classes you need, but the classes are large and generally pretty accommodating.
  9. Yeah... it seems there's a level of humility that some seem to lose as soon as the first acceptance rolls in.
  10. Here! http://www20.csueastbay.edu/class/departments/commsci/prospective/frequently-asked-questions.html#FAQ6a
  11. We're somewhat geographically limited - we've lived in the Portland metro (on the WA side of the Columbia river, though) for almost three years now, and some recent experiences have really driven home our desire to live in an area with some social support, eg. family/friends. His tentative list for next year, based on areas that we have family/friends in, includes all three AZ schools, all of the SF Bay Area schools, and probably Sacramento State. I'm not sure if this will help though, as (like you said!) almost all of those schools are super competitive, other than perhaps NAU? We've had a few discussions about whether or not it's feasible to look at "less desirable" schools in the midwest that might be less competitive, but haven't really reached a consensus when balancing against the cost of moving a 5 person household halfway across the country. If anyone has any input, I'm happy to hear it (I'm the longterm planner of the family) and happy to pass it along to him, as well.
  12. I wish there were a way to assess the contents of the LORs (other than to not waive the right to look at it, ha). One person he asked very frankly said that she didn't remember much of his work from her class, which was fine - better no recommendation than a lukewarm one! Do you have any experience in the field? All the feedback he received seemed to indicate that 3+ years working in SPED (with plenty of overlap with autism/SLP services, he's a one-on-one) would be sufficient to show his interest and dedication, but now he's wondering if he should be trying to get more direct experience working/volunteering under an SLP.
  13. Hi jmarti37. I'm obviously here by proxy (i relate trends/feedback/commentary on here back to the actual SLP applicant, but i'm much more type A than he is so my lurking seems to be more to assuage my own anxiety about where our family's future is headed! ... anyway...) but I'm kind of baffled by his dual rejections so far. I'm thinking, aside from his GRE AW score (which i've stressed over enough elsewhere), the only thing he can do to strengthen his application is change up his LOR writers and have more people go over his SOP with a fine-toothed comb. What are you looking to do to strengthen your app?
  14. I'm hoping it's closer to early! Not too early, though, we'll be in the south bay the first week of April, to visit friends/family, and I would rather avoid anything souring the trip haha. Have you been to the campus before? We visited last Christmas and I was shocked by how pretty it was (compared to my mental images of Hayward, at least).
  15. This is really important to emphasize. My husband's V/Q were solid despite his years-long problem with severe testing anxiety (you'd think he'd have exposure-therapy'd himself out of the most severe symptoms by now ...!), but he did get a 3.0 on the writing... He's a great writer but a poor typist and ran out of time for revisions after finger-pecking out what he could. It's frustrating that the GRE seems to be used to so methodically weed out otherwise excellent, intelligent applicants! Good luck to you, Bcjami! At least there ARE schools that don't consider the GRE the be-all and end-all of applicant metrics.
  16. Nope, still waiting on CSUEB. I can't say we're optimistic at this point, especially with only ~15 spots for those who have completed their pre-reqs. Trying to figure out how to strength the app for next year - LORs, maybe?
  17. So sorry mystique. Frowny faces together.
  18. Congrats, fsustar! Sounds like you've got some options.
  19. Yep, he literally just got the rejection 1 minute ago. Damn.
  20. Bummed. He just got home, no call. Not to jump to conclusions but I think some assumptions can safely be made....
  21. Nope. Checked again just a half hour ago. Still says that it's being reviewed by the department.
  22. So nerve wracking. I met my husband for lunch and gave him a heads up about the phone calls, but he works as a paraeducator with a behavioural class so if he happens to get a call, I won't hear about it until a few hours from now. Ugh! I'm not too optimistic, looking at the stats posted so far - his GPA is great and his V/Q scores were solid on the GRE, but he got a 3.0 on the AW... it might be an instant disqualify.
  23. Have you had the chance to check the portal? Did your status change there, as well?
  24. Well in that case ... congrats!!!
  25. Does SDSU do funding? That's the only thing I could thing of, if there was funding involved, but you'd think the excited OP would have mentioned it...
