I have received the letter from the department approx. two weeks ago. They said that they have recommended me for admission and that I will receive official letter from graduate school in two weeks. Status at applyyourself is "Recommended by Program; processing at the Graduate School". No news on funding and no insider info

Yeah, it is exactly the same. Thanks for the info. The first quote (about being renewable for 4 years) is from the letter of recommendation. So I guess the phrase that caught your attention is about the duration of funding.

Actually I got 3 letters from them. Two from admission officer and one from prof. A note for the readers of this topic, the 3rd letter was send at 6pm PST

CalTech has sent an invitation to vist them in mid-Feb. Why do they even send them to international applicants? There is no way one would get a visa in 2 weeks They are covering all expenses, which makes it even worse I hate phone conversations :evil: Phone interview in a foreign language will be the worst phone conversation ever. Btw, any good topic on phone interviews here?

I have been accepted (yay!! ) and now have a letter from a prof proposing to ask him questions about his research or university in general. What do you think I should write to him? Ask about his research? I don't think that I can come up with clever questions, and asking trivial questions which demonstrate that you haven't read his papers before asking is not a good idea. General questions? Shouldn't I ask them to the admission officer? Just thank him and don't ask anything? I am afraid that he will think that I'm uninterested. So, what would you do in this situation?

BS and MS (graduating this year, GPA 5/5) in applied math from Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko Univ, Ukraine GRE 600V(pure luck :roll:)/800Q/3.5AW, GRE Subj CS 840, TOEFL 111=L30/R30/S24/W27 3 LORs: from my research advisor, from subdepartment head and from professor who trained me for international math olymp while in high school. I know that all of them are highly positive, but I am not sure how valuable letters from foreign professors, none of whom is known to admission committee, are. 2 papers in Ukrainian journals I have applied for PhD to 13 universities, UIUC is the only to respond till now

Did you receive a letter from Roy Campbell saying "bla-bla-bla... congratulations... bla-bla-bla... You will soon receive an offer letter that will contain more information regarding financial support and other useful information"? That is what I have received yesterday. I am wondering, how soon is this "soon"
