  1. its odd because I know my recs sent them a while ago. Im going along thinking they are at the bottom of the gigantic pile and she will find them on the last possible second. At this point I don't care if I'm not good enough for the second time around, I just don't want to be "disqualified" for missing letters. I've spend waaaaay to much time and energy into these applications.
  2. I know the Grad application are piled up on your desk, yes you recieved 1,000 phone calls like mine, but did I not spend $75 dollars to receive some sort of assistance when needed. My letters of rec are missing, deadline is wed. the assistant cant tell me what ones are missing, the application program online is as old as the internet so it does'nt show me who has submitted. All three could be missing for all I know. and yes they need to be recieved by the 1st to be reviewed. WHAT A BUNCH OF BULL$***!!
  3. AAHHHHHHHHHHHH! AAAHHHHHHHHH!!! AAAHHHHHHHHHH!.....i feel better now.
  4. I am not good in front of complete strangers, nor am I good about talking about my work to complete strangers especially when there is a prize to be won. The student could tell I nervous and kept asking me really stupid questions that made me feel even more nervous while everyone else was stone cold silent. I honestly felt it was the first time they were looking at my images......I see the student now and again in my neighborhood and I just want throw a stick in his spokes. all in all it was for the better. The program might be in the top ten, but the studios suck, facility is meh, and the funding is poor.
  5. two years ago I made the shortlist at Tyler.....only to get ripped apart by a grad student during the interview.... one of the most embarrassing moments of my life thus far. I was so nervous standing in front of the current students and two faculty members. Really hope I don't go through anything like that again.
  6. don't count your chickens before they hatch.
  7. Is anyone else having a horrible time getting a hold of anyone to help at the University of Washington? My letters of rec have not been recieved. Ugh. I know they were closed for a few days because of the snow but the dead line coming up.
  8. The University of Washington has it under the student financial aid section, University of Oregon had it under the Human resources section. It led me to assume all major universities probably offer something like it. Another reason I am happy I applied to big Universities, more funding opportunities, more resources. It led me to check out graduate family housing too, University of oregon had some cute places with mad decent rent!
  9. I was checking different types of financial aid from the universities and notice a child care assistance program. Looks like they help pay cost for day care etc. any one out there receive this aid before?
  10. i have a 7 month old, thinking the same thing, im justing saving a lot of cash to pay rent etc for a year so far.
  11. you bet. I hear ya about checking things out for sure. I never thought i would see myself in the midwest but the program at Herron sounds really good, they have an emphasis on public work. But I will have see how Indianapolis and I get along if I get accepted, not to mention draging my family along for the ride (7month old baby) I would hate to move some place where my lady wouldn't be happy. This all feels a bit selfish in a way....
  12. I lived in Seattle for a bit and being inspired by architecture and interior design and food. I feel Seattle has a great "scene" going on. There are lots of gallleries and SAM "seattle art museum" just finished crazy renovations a few years ago. Also built a huge sculpture garden along the water front. COCA is a cool contemporary spot. Western Bridge is also amazing. As for professors...I am staff at a art school on the east coast and I would have to say all professors are a bit absent....is U W responsible for an art scene? doubtful. Henry art gallery has had some great shows. The city is exspensive, and has deep roots in the design and craft elements. Contemporary art is on the up and up.
  13. I feel location is sorta important because all your connections that will be made at grad school will be more than likely local.
  14. how did you apply "at the last minute" did you call up your recs and ask "hey would you mind submitting another letter why your at it?" I felt I wanted/needed to apply to some more programs but at this point its just out of desperation.
  15. I've had a couple of professors mention that the school may take it a bit more serious if you waive your right. Although The same professor let me read his rough draft! ha! So all in all, you shouldn't lose sleep over it.
  16. All Applications are signed sealed and delivered. (uploaded) I must say the slideroom and other portfolio image upload systems make it so much easier than burning a disk and testing it on a zillion other computers to make sure it will read. Not to mention the anxiety thinking about the disk getting crushed by the new post office worker.... Feels great to be done, Im very proud of my portfolio, statements etc and hope for the best.....but still waiting on that one single recommendation letter. I hate to come across obnoxious and pesky, because it is a lot of work writing these things....boo. Happy New Year to all.
  17. You ask the people who you want to write a letter of rec months in advance so they don't wait till the last minute. These people are going to give me a panic attack if they don't get busy!!
  18. Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art PAFA They have an amazing museum collection, enormous thesis shows, reputation and big name patrons/collectors/alumni
  19. Its my second time applying to U Dub as well, its been 2 years. I did get on the waiting list back then so I hope my hard work has paid off, right now it is my top choice, fingers crossed indeed. I was accepted to a program 2 years ago that was fully funded, but it ended up not being a good fit at all! Probably one of the hardest choices I have made so far in life. Looking forward to see what comes this time around. Good Luck!!
  20. I got the online application process over for three out of 7 so far, would like to have all submitted by early December. It is a big slap to the bank account. I spent the last 2.5 months reworking the letters of intent etc. Now its time to rent some studio lights and reshoot all my current work. blaaaah i just need to get this whole thing over and done with so I can focus on making work. University of Washington is by far the most tedious application I have ever seen. They even want you to pack the application items in a specific order. Its awesome!
