  1. Sounds like you would enjoy Tenleytown (the area around AU). As others have mentioned - it has less of an urban feel (houses have yards, there are plenty of families) but is still in DC and has plenty of restaurants, etc nearby. Your best bet is to check craigslist bc to my knowledge most of what is up there is houses. My friend paid something like 700/month to sublet a room over the summer up there.
  2. Yes! Thank you so much Of course I got the following message
  3. I have a question maybe someone else who is attending can help....I never received need-based financial aid notification from Minnesota (ie loans and whether I'm eligible for federal work study). I did get one for another school I was accepted to though. Did anyone get this info from MN??
  4. If I can jump back in to federal gov't work in DC, then I'd plan on mid 50-60s starting salary. If I get in to study abroad/international education, the I can probably expect to go down in the 30-40s, lol.
  5. Check it now! It's been 60s and sunny there while here in DC it's been 40s and rainy for 2 days straight!! What the heck?!?!
  6. LOL, I bought the t-shirt when I went to visit for accepted students day.
  7. I came here to ask the very same question posed by the OP. I have been working full time for 3 years now and have a nice income which will be all but non-existent once I start school. I got my award letter from one of my schools last week and I guess I am eligible for 8,500 subsidized and 12,000 in unsubsidized federal loans. The only thing it appears I've missed out on is federal work study. If I qualified for this would it have been listed in my financial aid award letter?
  8. I took micro in undergrad, but I also took a micro class through the USDA Graduate School. A lot of DCers use them, but I think they also have some online offerings and satellite classes. You may check to see if that's the case.
  9. Georgetown. Sure Harvard has a good name, but that name is really only valuable for but so long. The debt, on the other hand, will last FOREVER (ok, not forever, but it will definitely outlast Harvard's name value towards your career in my opinion).
  10. I live in Capitol Hill/Eastern Market and I love it. I'm actually leaving this summer to got to Minnesota and will really miss my neighborhood. Anywhere around Lincoln Park is generally going to be a great location. I used to live in Arlington (Clarendon) which was nice, but eh. Not especially unique or interesting to me. Here, I live around families, single people, young people, older people, people of all backgrounds and various income levels. It really is a nice little melting pot. There is always someone outside walking, running, or playing with their dog. I am on Independence in SE and I would not go any farther over than 14th St SE. I know people who are fine living further over (closer to Stadium-Armory), but as a single female, I wouldn't walk over there alone at night. Also, if you're around Capitol South, Eastern Market, or Potomac Avenue Metros, you are on the orange and blue lines. Believe me, as someone who lived only on the orange line before, this is a great thing at rush hour!
  11. My letter came while I was visiting Minnesota this weekend. It really didn't matter what the letter said since I realized during my visit that Minnesota really is the best fit for me academically. The best part? It took them this long just to tell me I got waitlisted.
  12. same Minnesota has pretty much won me over anyway, but it really would be nice to know for sure.
  13. what a poo fest. nothing in the mail today. if there are any more acceptance letters going out, I'm not sure how they expect those people to make it to town for the visit days. end rant.
  14. I just noticed a first rejection from the Evans School on the results page. I expect mine will be waiting for me when I get home today.
  15. I couldn't agree more. I have heard nothing at this point. While I assume I was not admitted, it is VERY frustrating knowing that they couldn't even tell me that within a reasonable amount of time. UW should seriously take some tips from schools like Minnesota that were not only fast, but informative and very helpful throughout the admissions process.
  16. I have been uber stressed the last couple weeks waiting to hear back from my final school (UW). I know at this point it's going to be bad news, but I'm really pissed it's taken them so long to tell me. Anyway, I find that the fmylife website is always good for a few laughs. It also makes me instantly feel better about my problems, haha
  17. I also really like how much effort they've put in to reaching out. I also appreciate that they were very fast to send out notifications. My main draw to Minnesota is that they also have a grad program in International Education which is of interest to me.
  18. Is anyone going to either of these? I will be there tomorrow - Tuesday for the admitted students day Monday
  19. I've officially given up hope and have accepted that I will be freezing in Minny next year! edit: Thursday night and still nothing. Really, just send an e-mail next time. grrrrrr
  20. Just bought my ticket to visit MN this weekend. I will be there Saturday - Tuesday! I haven't decided for sure yet, but will likely be there for my MPP in the fall.
  21. Still nothing. Looks like I'll be freezing in Minny.
  22. I e-mailed last night and got this response today: Letters will be going out this week in the mail. So not really encouraging. Ah well I just want to know either way so I know if I have decisions to make.
  23. Nab, I applied to University of Oregon. I only briefly looked at Oregon State's program so unfortunately have no insight/advice on that one.
  24. "waves"?? LAME. Haha, I definitely e-mailed them today to ask about the status of my app. I don't expect to actually get a response
