  1. Just got an acceptance letter from UVA I must have come off of the waitlist. Has ANYONE heard anything about funding?
  2. Villanova is a really good program. The faculty are all very professional and encouraging. I am finishing up there now. It has done fairly well placing students at good PhD programs. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, I am not one of those students, but I do know other students who have gone on to Cornell, NYU and Emory recently. If you have more questions about Villanova, PM me and I'd be glad to answer them.
  3. Thanks guys. Yeah I haven't been rejected anywhere other than the places indicated in my signature, so its possible something good might drop in my lap, but I'm being realistic. I guess it helps that I am employed and won't have to scramble to find something else to do if I don't get in. We'll see what happens...
  4. Couldn't tell you. But now that I've pretty much accepted the fact that, barring any last minute miracles, I won't be getting any offers, my productivity has skyrocketed, believe it or not. Failing and being forced to move on it very freeing.
  5. Also depends how far you live from Massachusetts too. I'm a few states south of it so I'm giving myself until tomorrow before I concede defeat, assuming acceptances were mailed on Wed.
  6. Yeah I'm pretty fed up too. Maybe it's because I am fortunate enough to already be established in my plan B/C career, but this whole experience is starting to leave a bad taste in my mouth and part of me wonders if it is just a glimpse of the silliness and uncertainty to come should I embark on an academic career. Maybe those of us left in the dark should start getting over the disappointment, dust ourselves off and just get on with life. We are all intelligent and hard working people....we are going to do just fine one way or another. That said, good luck and maybe we'll each get some nice surprise admits soon.
  7. Sonny, would you mind posting your stats? I also applied to Rutgers and JHU and have yet to hear anything either way. I'd like to see how I compare. Thanks.
  8. I don't think my parents fully understand what going for a PhD entails, but they are generally supportive so long as I can hack it financially. They just want me to be happy with how I make a living. With things looking bleak on the acceptance front, I'm going to feel embarrassed if I have to tell them (along with other relatives, friends and coworkers) that I didn't get in anywhere. Most people don't fully grasp the daunting odds even very qualified people face in getting in or how subjective the application/decision process is. I didn't anticipate how much of a mental toll applying and waiting would take. Uggghhh
  9. Ha! Nevermind a reason, I would just like an answer to whether I am definitely rejected or not. All but one of my schools has been notifying people of acceptance, rejection and waitlisting and I have heard none of the above. Entering my result into the system and shooting me an email wouldn't kill them. It's common courtesy. They probably take pleasure in our squirming.
  10. If you believe the results page, it looks that way. Given the state of affairs and a lot of second guessing myself since I haven't been accepted anywhere yet, I'm not too hopeful. The only one left for me that hasn't notified anyone yet apparently is MIT. Anyone know when they might start notifying?
  11. Funny you should say that....I'm in the military and hoping academia is my way out. Salary, job security and retirement are fantastic on the officer side, but it's still the military...deployments suck and it's not always the most intellectually satisfying job, even in the intel field. Guess you just can't win during times like these. If you are actually serious about joining, feel free to PM me.
  12. I don't like the way they do things, but I understand why they have to...to a degree. I would like a little more communication though. I don't think it would kill them send a mass email to those still in limbo that simply states they have begun sending out notifications, are still evaluating some applicants and an estimated completion date. As of now I haven't anything and at this rate, I might not hear a peep out of the schools until April. My job requires quite a bit of notice (several months) so I need to know if I have to get that process rolling. Uggghhh
  13. At least you've heard something Rockso. A few of my school were notifying and I haven't heard a damn thing. The admissions and notification process seems very convoluted.
