  1. Personally, if a prof didn't seem excited or pleased to be writing a rec for me I'd go looking for someone else to do it. Sounds like she was not really into it from the beginning. I don't know if you can "undo" a recommendation already sent but I would suggest you get someone new asap. Although it was extremely rude of her to keep you hanging like that and she unfairly put you in a horrible situation, it looks pretty immature on your part that you had your mom call her. After something like that, if I were a prof, I don't think I'd write a good recommendation either.
  2. I wouldn't necessarily turn down Yale or Cornell just based on the interactions i've had with the staff, but I definitely got a better vibe from other schools I applied to. A couple of them contacted me about missing materials right away and were very friendly and helpful. I guess I will try contacting both of them again, and if nothing happens I will assume either they have all my materials or that they don't care, and in that case neither do I.
  3. I applied to Cornell and Yale and so far I have been totally discouraged. I checked my Yale status a week or two after I submitted everything and saw that my GRE scores hadn't come, so I called their office and was told rather rudely that they would not take any phone calls from applicants. So I sent an email like they requested, and have heard nothing since then. The status page STILL says there are no GRE scores!! Cornell hasn't been much better, I tried to confirm if they had received everything and got no reply there either. I sort of took this to mean that neither schools are at all interested in my apps. But even if that's not the case and I still have a chance, i'm starting to think that I don't want to go to either school because of the way I've been treated through the app process!
  4. UW is my first choice of schools and I was told that they would be sending notices from early february to mid march. But I applied to a different program, so it could be totally different for yours.
  5. I'm going straight through because I've known for years that this is what I want to do. I had to work through college so I already know how it is out in the "real world" and I'm not interested! Plus, my B.A. is in English, so my starting salary if I chose to get a job right out of college would probably be comparable to that of a grad student anyway, so I didn't see any advantages in waiting a year or two.
  6. I am so lucky to have a boyfriend who is willing to go anywhere with me, regardless of the fact that he may not get to work in his field if I end up at some of the places I've applied to. Which is tough, because those schools are two of the most prestigious schools I applied to, so choosing between giving my career a boost and supporting his is going to be hard if I get in.
