    Pets anyone?!

I agree with many posters here that a lack of dog experience combined with a somewhat frenetic time schedule lends itself much more to adopting a young or adult dog (8 mo.+). And whatever the OP does, if you so choose to adopt a dog, please, please, please go to your local shelter. Where I volunteer, we get 30+ dogs a day, for a shelter that holds about 60 dogs. Fortunately, many of these dogs are claimed within the same day (runaways), but as you can imagine, overcrowding is a major problem. We do our best to find homes for every adoptable dog, but with 7 million homeless animals, this problem isn't going away. Do your research, ask the shelter staff questions and I promise, you will adopt a lovely, lovely animal.
  2. It's real...it's mine. I found out when I came home late Sunday night and opened my mail. It's nice to have an option, but instead of alleviating anything, I'm finding I'm more and more anxious.
  3. I know there is a separate results page, but in the interest of culling all the information in one place, I thought it might be nice to post here when policy schools (MPP, MPA, PHd) start notifying. So far, it looks like the following schools have started to contact candidates: GWU--MPP--Acceptances only? Georgetown--MPP CMU--MPP Brown--MPP Brandeis Heller--MPP I think last week we were mulling about whether NYU would be next? Did I forget any schools?
  4. It's nice, though, to have a little neurotic community to obsess with...even if I can't get myself to stop clicking the "refresh" button on my email, at least I know I can usually come here and read a new comment from someone else just as compulsive as I am!
  5. Given last year's results page, I thought we might hear something from NYU starting late last week...clearly I am in the wrong! I wonder how closely schools adhere to previous decision-making schedules, or if these change from year to year. While I am guessing the latter makes more sense (no incoming class/mitigating factors--cough the economy cough-- can be the same), I'm still hoping to hear soon! I'm starting to get a little obsessive about checking my email...
  6. sounds like it...i wonder how many of us recovering paralegals decided to skip the law route and go into policy instead? goodluck with the applications...i know i've really started to fret.
  7. As somebody who works in DC, I've felt that DC jobs are ALL about connections. Not what you know, but who you know. Therefore, Georgetown would be my first choice, if I were you. My friends who are Georgetown and GW MPP students take night classes, too, so they can work internships in the day, which are truly the best way to make connections and find out about openings.
  8. organic farm?!? that's amazing! where did you do that? i've been working as a nonprofit lobbyist in DC for about 2 years...was a paralegal before that (back when I thought I wanted to be a lawyer!)
  9. Can I ask a silly question (well, two, really)? 1. How do you quote someone--ie get the little box within your text so that you're responding directly to the poster? 2. How did people set up little signatures boxes at the bottom that indicate to which schools they applied? Clearly, technology is not my forte...
  10. I got my letter and I was denied. I am still in shock. I mean, with a CMU acceptance and scholarship, there was no way I was going but still! Ah well. I am trying not to be upset since it doesn't mess up my plans at all. I am just surprised. I have never been denied from a school before and I really want my first denial to be WWS, since it is a respectable place to be turned away from. I hope whoever asked me to post my stats reads this but I'm not clogging up the results page with that stuff: 3.66 overall 3.91 upper division Manga cum laude honors w/ senior thesis in English 730Q/690V 2 years professional work experience ] Argh...Plate or platter, this was NOT what I want to hear! I have a feeling tonight will be nightmares for sure. I read someone saying that NYU is expected this week...was that based on last year's results page?
  11. the very first thing i would do is quit my job and give an honest exit interview!
  12. can i be the drummer??
  13. mgrn-- not sure if this helps, but a friend of mine who worked just one year in a private law firm as a paralegal, with similar gre stats and a lower gpa than yours, was accepted to george mason. with a full ride to boot. i think even a small time spent in public sector will work to your advantage. so even if that is only one example, hopefully that alleviates some concern...that you are concerned with a 780 q scares me! i think we're all a little nervous about what the implosion of the economy means for grad school apps, so maybe the ball game has changed this year and we don't even know it.
  14. question--a few posts have mentioned rolling admissions. when i was applying (thank goodness--over with!) every admissions office i checked with said there would be no difference between applications submitted in october and apps submitted in january. has anyone heard differently? i've been lurking on this for a while and finally had to join--i have to admit your collective stats have been very intimidating.
