  1. I just found out that I've been admitted to Harvard Divinity's MTS Program with a focus on Religion, Literature, and Culture. I also only got half-tuition, so I understand how that can be disappointing. I'm still not sure what I'll be doing because I'm wait-listed for a PhD program. *sigh* But anyway, I'm excited for those of us who received good news from HDS today! I'm also curious to find the other person on the results board who was admitted to the Religion, Literature, and Culture focus. Reply here or PM me!
  2. I was admitted to Toronto's one-year MA in Medieval Studies on Feb. 14. Although I knew this going in, I just couldn't handle taking out $35,000 in loans for a one-year program with no guarantee of admission to the PhD. Anyway, they required me to respond to their offer by March 4. I declined. So, I expect another round of MA acceptances should be going out soon. Also, I know someone else who was accepted to the Medieval Studies PhD at Toronto. And they also only gave her until March 14 to respond. BTW, my application status still says "Under Review" even though I have received emails and letters from both the Centre and the Graduate School. So, I wouldn't put too much stock in that.
  3. I just received my acceptance letter from ASU a few minutes ago. I'm interested in late medieval religious literature. I also received a generic letter from the Graduate College. Hopefully we will hear about funding soon! Does anyone know how well ASU typically funds their English Lit PhDs?
  4. They are not notifying by sub-field because I'm also a medievalist with very similar interests to both of you, swilson and lyonessrampant. I received the rejection letter last Wednesday (Feb. 2), so I have no idea in what order they are sending out these decisions. Best of luck to both of you, though! I would have loved to work with Sarah Beckwith, especially. Also, swilson, I am so so so jealous of your Northwestern admit. Ah, Barbara Newman ...
  5. I'm finishing my undergrad degree at UT-Knoxville. Although i would not have expected it when I first arrived here, I will really miss Knoxville. Parts of the campus are really beautiful, and as the post above me says, the campus and downtown areas are definitely walkable. I know lots of people who bike to campus as well, although depending where you live it may take some time to find a safe route. I know faculty and students who live in the Fourth and Gill neighborhood. I would definitely recommend that you drive around that neighborhood if you do happen to visit Knoxville. That would be a place within bike-able, but not necessarily walk-able distance to campus, but it is definitely in walk-able distance to downtown. As a grad student, I would not recommend living on campus or very close to campus, as you'd have to deal with the significant noise level that accompanies drunken undergrads. While Knoxville would be no comparison to Austin, there is actually a growing progressive/artsy crowd. I know many undergraduates who are involved in this scene, although I cannot speak to how many grad students are involved. Sorry I can't help with Nashville. I have heard great things about their downtown area and live music.
  6. I received an email this afternoon telling me that I had been rejected. The email indicated that I would receive the official letter on the online application "shortly," although my online application has not yet been updated. The email also says this: "Our admissions committee in the Northwestern English department has finished reviewing the files of everyone applying for Fall 2011 admission to our doctoral program and has now made final decisions."
