  1. To be honest, I don't have very much information either and I don't know what CO means. I think your professor is correct and no official announcements will be made to departments prior to a fastlane update.
  2. Thanks! Don't know how many additional awards they are planning to give out, but from what I've gathered, it seems that everyone in the "limbo" group is (more or less) very qualified. Those with applications that have something that "sticks out" (good or bad) will have the better chance. If it's 'bad', then there better be a ton of 'good' to back the application up! I wish you the best...
  3. lol twas just a metaphor... But in an attempt to make things right, I can offer some advice to those who want it. At this time, I can't go into details about my situation, but I can say that I am a fortunate limbo-er that will be an awardee. I am an entering grad student and on my application I listed no publications, a low overall GPA, and only one year relevant research experience (but really, it's the quality, not the quantity that counts). I do have solid GRE scores and several other redeeming qualities. Very importantly (i think...), I had emphasized the broader impacts and asked my LOR writers to recount my actions and support my intentions. ...anyway, that's all I've got for now. Good luck everyone!
  4. Dear Applicant: Your application for the 2009 National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) has been evaluated. We regret to inform you that you were not selected to receive a penis in this year's competition.
  5. Yesterday I was congratulated in passing by my mentor for being awarded a nsf grf. I have not received any official notices and said professor has remained silent since then. Don't know what this means exactly, but potentially it could be the light at the end of the tunnel.
  6. Yeah, I love California for its great weather -- and various other reasons -- but will probably apply broader next time. Luckily, I'm in no hurry (at the moment). As for the graduate stipend, I think it is enough to live on, so I wouldn't worry about that... unless you like eating caviar for dinner every night.
  7. Sounds like it's a positive sign because it's clear that you have someone interested in you. It is also possible that acceptance may be contingent upon available funds... you know what I mean?
  8. Hey congratulations, cogneuroforfun! Those are some great schools. What is your desired research focus?
