  1. Ed.D. in Instructional Technology and Media. Anxious about funding notification. Hope to have some.
  2. Thank you flyinglion! Your test scores are great! Hope you can have another school which provides you better financial aid than HGSE. However, I personally think the package good enough for me though in fact I have been rejected.
  3. Hi missashley, HGSE told me the exact same thing. I suppose it will just be some documents that we have to sign on and turn back to them. Do not take these words too seriously. The term "admitted student" catches my eyes more!
  4. Hi flyinglion, I am very curious about knowing how "ungenerous" HGSE is for the financial aid they provide to their incoming doctoral students. Could you please share some more details? In my mind, I always thought the financial aid package HGSE provides is among the most attractive. Besides, if you don't mind, could you also share some of your backgrounds here? Thank you! Congrats to your HGSE admission!
  5. I am in the Language and Literacy EdM program. I applied for the EdD program but was offered the master's instead. Anyway, I am still so excited that I can have the chance to be part of Harvard! Yet, what I am wondering is that I am also admitted to an EdD program at Columbia TC. If you were me, which program would you accept, the EdM at HGSE or the EdD at TC? Thank you for giving me some advice!!! Congrats to all!
  6. I was thrilled to find I have also been accepted by TC yesterday. My program is Instructional Technology and Media (EdD). Is anyone in the same program? Besides, I am curious if anyone hears about the financial aid? I know TC's high acceptance rate prevents it from having the same high rate of financial support. But it's really my big concern. Could anyone share some of your insights about the financial matters at TC? Thank you! congrats to all!
  7. Thank you, rhonechica. I almost forget to say congratulations to you! I have been to Boston once. At that itme, I stayed just near BC (Brighton) and loved that area very very much! Speaking of your SOP, may I ask which professor you would like to work with at BC? And which area of specialization are you in? I also applied to C&I with a specialization in language, learning and literacy. Thank you! Sorry for discussing BC under the title of Harvard.
  8. Hi rhonechica and TeeDub, I have the same bad thought as you do. What is worse is that I apply to both HGSE and Boston College and heard nothing from them. So... I guess my chance should be dim. rhonechica: Which program do you apply for BC? Could you please share with me more of your background to help me have some ideas about what kind of applicant they are looking for. Thank you!
  9. WOW, I thought University of Michigan - Ann Arbor should render their decisions a little sooner since they have an earlier deadline (Dec. 1), don't they? It was also the school I would like to apply to but just missed the deadline at last.

    Stanford

Hi jpark, No, I didn't check the master's option for Stanford, but I did do so for Harvard. Good luck!!!

    Stanford

Oh... Stanford says no to me, too. How can they do that? It hurts. One of my professors once told me that they serve really great meals at Stanford cafeteria. Guess I have no chance to have a taste of it. Sigh. I apply to the Ph.D. program in Learning Sciences and Technology Design. BTW, I am wondering if you guys e-mailed your potential advisors before you wrote your SOP? Or, did you just list their names on it without discussing with them before? Is it necessary to do so? I really want to know. Maybe I am so naive for this application task.
  12. Hi withjoy: I just noticed from the results search that someone has been accepted by TC for the Ed.D. program in English education. I also apply for the Ed.D. program of Instructional Technology and Media at TC this year. Wish you good luck!
  13. Yes. Hope to know more information. I also notice that TC is sending out their admissions. Someone posted that s/he has been admitted to the Ed.D. program in English Education at TC.
  14. I am in the field of education becuase I love to help and I love to share. Compared with other jobs I had done before, being a teacher gives me a sense of achievement when I see the progress my students make and I believe the progress they make will leave them a life-long impact. Besides, teaching also endows me with a high degree of self-determination. It helps me keep balance between my career and my life. Since I started teaching, I have never doubted why I am in it or felt depressed when I wake up in the morning or at the very last day of a vacation. Though there are some negative sides, such as the very bad attitude that some students may bring with them to class and the stress to prepare for a decent lecture, I still cherish the chance of being able to work as a teacher. As for why I want to pursue a doctoral degree in education, I think that is because I love to teach and discover new things and I love to write articles.
  15. Dear HGSE Applicants, Today I recieved an e-mail from HGSE asking me about my preference for the 2 tracks of the master's program which I indicated I would also be interested in being considered if the Ed.D. program is not available for me. I hope it is just a simple clarification and doesn't mean I am already out of the Ed.D. selection. What do you think? Anyway, at least I think my application has been reviewed carefully. Just hope for the best.
  16. Thank you for this encouragement! Yes, look forward to good news!
  17. Hi, t_ruth: Thank you for your reply. Here are some of my background. Education: Undergrad major in social work GPA 80.05 on a 100 points scale; graduate major in TESOL GPA 90.9 on a 100 points scale. Both are schools in Taiwan. Tests: GRE verbal 610 quantitative 770 awa 4.5; TOEFL-iBT 110 Experience: I am currently an English lecturer at a technological university in Taiwan, since last August; university administrator for international affairs for 1 year; TA while studying in the master's program for 2 years. Publications: 1 paper presentation in an international conference; 3 paper presentations in local conferences; 1 paper accepted in a local conference proceedings. Male (But, I accidentally chose FEMALE on the online application form of NYU. I just noticed this stupid mistake yesterday and e-mailed them for any possible correction. Still waiting for their generous reply. I find NYU Steinhardt quite friendly and supportive.) That's me. Nice to meet you!!! Wish us all good luck!!!
  18. Dear All: I am so glad to find this forum to share with you the latest application status for the educational programs. I am an international student from Taiwan. I apply for several PhD programs in Education this year, including (lots of application fees,): HGSE (Human Development and Education), WUSTL (Education) Penn GSE (Educational Linguistics), TC (Instructional Technology), NYU Steinhardt (TESOL), Northwestern (Learning Sciences), SUSE (Education) Vanderbilt Peabody (Learning, Teaching, & Diversity), UNC Chapel Hill (Educational Psychology, Measurement and Evaluation) U. of Delaware (Literacy Education), Rutgers GSE (Language and Literacy Education). So far, I got only one feedback, unfortunately, a sad one, from Peabody. They told me, after my follow-up inquiry, that it was because of the great number of applications, limited slots, and the mismatch of my research interests with their faculty members. I noticed some of you have also applied for Peabody and feel curious about knowing your experience there? It seems that they have phone interviewed some lucky people already. Would you like to share with us? From last week on, I did start checking my e-mail 10 times each day. I am so afraid that none of the programs above will offer me a place this year. If you have any personal linkage with these schools, please be kind to share with me. Or, if you hear of or receive any information from these programs, please also be kind to share. Thank you so much! Most important of all, congratulations to those guys already accepted by Berkeley!!! It is so good to know at least there is somewhere to go at this early stage, let alone it is Berkeley!!! Hope to have some of your luck
