I emailed the assistant chair, and he said that I was accepted but that I was not on the first list for funding. I'm pretty disappointed, I was really excited about CSU. I emailed him to ask what the shortcomings in my application where, and he said, very emphatically, that I didn't have any shortcomings, but rather that the state budget had shortcomings. This made me feel better, knowing that I would have likely gotten funding if we were in better economic times. I thought my application was pretty strong: 770Q, 530V, 5.0AW, 3.75 GPA (magna cum laude), math/bio double major, 2 summers of research in molecular bio and bioinformatics, and good letters of reference. I have a special interest in applications of statistics to biology, yada yada yada, and CSU would be a great fit for me. He said that anything could happen within the next couple of weeks, and that I should stay in contact, as funding could become available. I think that they will send out admission offers sometime early next week, after the April 1st deadline for applying without funding. Anyhow, good luck to you, and I hope you get in and get funded!
