  1. Jujubea your impressions of the student body are EXACTLY why I didn't accept the offer. Maybe the faculty are amazing, but I just could not deal with the undergrads.
  2. from my experience with them, if they want you this bad they will fund you. Congrats and good luck!
  3. probably means an acceptance or a call to schedule an interview! congrats! When I got into that program three years ago I just got a very generic letter in the mail. Sounds like they really want you!
  4. Dear Diazalon, Thanks for the great advice! This is my second, and probably last attempt, so I'm sure you can understand I'm more than a bit nervous. I actually ended up having my advisor email me out of the blue anyway and let me know that my application had progressed to the next stage of the process. I'm glad I didn't initiate it though! All the best, doobie
  5. who had the other columbia interview? how did it go? mine was terrifying!
  6. Cambridge applicants: Any movement on your camsis accounts? I'm still under review. Is this a bad sign? I'm thinking of emailing my POI to ask, what do you guys think?
  7. I'm so excited and scared and hopeful! I was one of the four waitlisted applicants last year, and my POI told me that I was #1 on the list. Someone even did turn them down, and they decided not to fund a sixth student. I was so, so, so close. I took all of my POI's advice, learned new languages, moved countries, fine-tuned my research. I really, really hope it works out this year. I think I'll be really crushed if I get a rejection #2. this season is honestly going really well though, given five interviews and one presumed admit. I can't be greedy, but I feel like a top-chef contestant in last chance kitchen. I want redemption!
  8. does anybody here have academia.edu? I can see that in the last three days my profile has been looked at by two people in Cambridge, MA. I hope this means my Harvard application is under review!
  9. same! when did your status change? mine was 1/14. Sorry to be obsessive, I'm just really new to the British system
  10. has anyone been checking camsis for cambridge results? any movement?
  11. they're being fantastic at emory; so incredibly nice and flexible. This speaks good things for the future! I'm excited to meet you guys
  12. I'm the one who did the Chicago interview, but it was unofficial and actually I'm very scared about chicago. They have an insanely high reject rate! Does anyone have any insight as to why? Is it considered the best religion program in the country? I don't actually know much about it except that this one professor that I really like is there...
  13. Is anyone here coming to the Emory ICIVS interview weekend?
  14. who is coming to the Emory interview weekend?
  15. non-generic email; POI emailed me for skype interview next week
  16. it actually can be a very good thing! when I was on the adcom of XYZ ivy for the MA degree in my field, people who improved and then re-applied were automatic admits, and were spoken of with alot of admiration by the committee. I'm in the same boat--I'm reapplying to my dream school this year, and I'm pretty optimistic! Good luck all
  17. Aubstopper I also applied to a Oxbridge--do you have any sense of how admissions differs between a UK uni and an American university of the same level? Is there somewhere I can read about the admission process (I looked on the Oxford page but I wonder if there is better information floating around the interwebs)
  18. wow! We're like the same person! I'm at HUJ right now on a fellowship! Small world, right? I do comparative religion (Islam/Judaism) and I'm hoping to work with James Robinson. He's here in Jerusalem now, and he is teaching me judeo arabic. We already have a good relationship and he told me he wants to work with me, but he's worried I'll be poached by Harvard. (inshallah!) I was there a few years ago--Morony was my advisor, and I never got a chance to take Myers but It's a big regret of mine
  19. I was also at UCLA for MENAS! who was your adviser? David Myers?
  20. I don't know, I feel good about this go-round
