  1. Got the rejection email earlier this afternoon. No big deal. It sure took them long enough though.
  2. Its April 4th. Any updates?
  3. I was told by the department a couple of days ago that admissions decisions have not yet been finalized. They also said that they would be completing the process over the next few weeks and send notifications via email and postal. Anyone heard anything else. I assume they are waiting on the first rounders to either accept or decline. Anybody who has been accepted made a decision yet?
  4. I emailed the DGS a few days ago but havent heard back yet. The wait continues.
  5. I still havent heard anything from UIC. No acceptance, wait list, or rejection. Does anyone have any information about the time table they are working on. Its pretty late in the season and and Im just looking for any new info anyone may have.
  6. I still havent heard anything from UMD. No acceptance, wait list, or rejection. Does anyone have any information about the time table they are working on. Its pretty late in the season and and Im just looking for any new info anyone may have.
  7. I still havent heard anything from NYU. No acceptance, wait list, or rejection. Does anyone have any information about the time table they are working on. I noticed a few rejections on the results page - were they personalized or mass emails? Its pretty late in the season and and Im just looking for any new info anyone may have.
  8. Thank you all for the comments. Regarding my approach to transferring, I was just honest about my feeling toward the department with the profs who wrote me letters of rec. I found that they were very aware of the shortcomings of the department and that they understood completely my desire to seek out all possible options. I then gave them some of my application materials (e.g. statements, cv, writing sample, etc) because I have not been here very long and as a result they don't know me very well. I think the only way you can really approach it is to talk to the professors who you can trust the most and be honest about your feelings toward the department. Hopefully they will understand that you happiness and future career will depend a great deal on your program and they will do their best to help you get into a school you like better..
  9. So, I am in my second year of study at my PhD program. I have full funding through my fourth year and am about to finish my MS within the next few weeks. I wanted to transfer to a more demanding program because, frankly, my current one is not challenging me intellectually and there are some departmental issues that are contributing to an overall negative atmosphere. Further, as my research focus have evolved, my interests do not fit into my departments strengths even remotely. I do have a good advisor and other faculty have expressed interest in working with me even though they do not specialize in my area. I applied to several higher ranked programs with better academic fits this fall but it doesnt seem like I will be admitted into any of them. The dilemma: Do I complete my PhD at a program that I am not satisfied with, do I apply again next fall while staying in my current program, or do I leave post MS and apply again next fall after gaining some other type of experience. My first inclination is to go with option one or two but would like to hear other perspectives. Thanks
  10. I'm in the same boat with UIC and am operating under the assumption I didnt get in. Cant really see any other way to look at it with the acceptances and wait listings. c'est la vie.
  11. Just voicing my frustration that acceptances and wait listings have gone out for most of my potential programs yet I still haven't heard anything for days. Just send me my damn rejection notice so I can get on with my life. Anyone else share those sentiments? They must know who they intend to reject if they are admitting people. Don't they know that some of us have pulled ourselves out of poverty through our academic success and that this game is not funny. They should let people know of rejections as soon as they have completed the decision making process. A mass email only takes a few minutes to send out. Perhaps I am beginning a good ol' fashioned rant so I will stop now before I really get going. Cheers to those who got into the program they wanted.
