  1. I also have a couple of applications in the mid-lower tier. I decided to take a more humble shot at schools since this is my second time doing it. I applied to George Mason, American, Boston University, and a few other schools from the 15-25 range.
  2. Congrats again grrradtime and thanks for appeasing our curiosity. So what I understand from this and from the previous NWU results is, if we do not receive any news within a few days we are indeed toast.
  3. I also want to add my voice to the inquiries above. Congrats on the acceptance in any case
  4. Congrats kolja on OSU, great school, great program! Hopefully you will hear more good news from your other applications soon. Also kudos to the Vandy admits! People who got rejected from Duke, keep your heads up! We are not even midway through this process. All you need is one acceptance, and I am sure there will be more than one for you guys. Those who didn't hear anything from Duke yet - I guess we came to the point where no news is good news.
  5. Stanford, UVA, UPitt, OSU, UNC, and UT-Austin are my guesses for this week. I would add Northwestern too, but after iwouldpreferanonymity's post i am withdrawing that one. I think the real explosion will happen not this week but next week
  6. academia.edu most probably Never thought of that. Let the spambox refreshing commence! Also, you know the season is getting to you when you hate weekends
  7. tergellian, balderdash, RWBG, bodywithoutorgans and Tamboursg'sell CONGRATS GUYS!!!!! I am so happy for you!! Hopefully these will be the first (second and third ) of the many good news you will hear very soon!! I really like it when people here bring good news, I really do. as for OSU, three results yesterday (which no one claimed) and none today. that doesn't sync well with the results of previous years. not that i am entirely convinced that they are fake but what do you guys think? ps. and tergellian, no more chainsmoking for you I presume
  8. My subfield is also IR, though mine is more IR theories, state identity, rivalry etc. OSU seems to be sending admission decisions over a few days according to the results of previous years, so hopefully we will all hear some good news this week. Whirlibird congrats on the Duke acceptance!! Fingers crossed for other Duke people
  9. finally!! I could use some solidarity. Best of luck to you kolja, i hope you get in. What is your subfield?
  10. Come on guys no OSU applicants here? (i think I refreshed my e-mail 12391278041097 times in the past hour)
  11. Anyone claiming OSU acceptances? the fact that i didn't hear from them yet doesn't mean anything right? time to chain-smoke a la tergellian
  12. things are heating up congrats brent09!!!!
  13. Georgetown Government received 514 apps last year and 568 apps in 2009 according to their website...
  14. getting rejected everywhere TWICE might be pretty close to being the worst thing in the world Apparently OSU notified admits on 4 Feb last year, and Northwestern did the same the year before.
  15. I was wondering if any of the lurkers here -former applicants, current PhD students and others- have any insider information regarding the ad com meetings that they wouldn't mind sharing with us.. you know, nothing too important but rather in the lines of "i know that they will meet on Thursday" kind of info. anyone?
  16. IR here. with such a good karma on his/her back, balderdash should run for president instead of watching Africans playing an alien sport brent09, there may be a handful of theorists but I believe they are over-represented among the active members of the forum, which is always good
  17. The half application means I have the application prepared for a safety school and will submit if I don't hear any good news in the first two weeks of February. by the way what's up with the consistent negative rep points? i guess someone in this forum really has an issue with you
  18. Congrats so far jsclar and well said. On a side note, I am touched by the activism displayed in this forum lately, after the relatively dull past few weeks.
  19. Serenity now tergellian, serenity now. That said, I have an audiobook version of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. A nice way of letting go of stress I think, since it requires little concentration on your part. ps. your signature is also not exactly a mood lifter
  20. Point taken. Thank you very much
  21. Dr. Higgins (well obviously this is not your name, but it sounds appropriate), it is a bit early to ask, but I would like to hear what advice you might have about negotiating funding packages.
  22. Tamaloo - There is no distinction between students (international or not) when it comes to sending out decisions. If, of course, the department decides to send out actual letters and nothing else, I would expect the prospective student in India to get the news later than the one in Boston. Wmplax - regarding sub-disciplines - I believe that is the case, though it is more rigid in some universities than others. Let's say X university wants to get 5 students for the IR sub-division and 5 for theory. There is a possibility that they will play with the numbers and make it 4 IR and 6 Theory after seeing your supercalifragilisticexpialidotious application (which is somehow worse than those of all the other 5 theory people but rocks compared to the lame IR files). Then again that might not be something to rely on since schools usually admit more people than their target number of incoming students. Well, what do i know..
  23. Then kudos to you as well sir (ma'am?). I hope you get into your first choice, provided it is not Madison. As for the African Cup, maybe balderdash is not interested this year because of the absence of Egypt and Nigeria?
  24. Congrats to everyone but especially RWBG and balderdash for the Madison acceptance. It might sound strange, but seeing how these guys finally got their deserved acceptance in their second cycle gives me a kind of peace and pleasure as a second timer myself. Hearty congrats
  25. Which is ironic since being constantly asked about the results is the least nice thing that can be done to people in our situation. I certainly don't need additional help to remember my applications.
