  1. Awesome. I like Chicago too. Beautiful city. I do hope it works out for you!!! By the way, does anybody know if the berkeley med anthro admissions is separate from the cultural anthro admission. I see that the cultural anthro admissions have been sent out already and I havent heard anything back yet from my med anthro app...... Should I be worried?
  2. Congrats Kateow! You must be very happy with your applications! And thank you for this information. This is very helpful. I hope I am somewhere high up on the waitlist!!! Is Chicago your 1st choice?
  3. Persiandoc! So glad to hear your NYU interview went well. I do hope you get one of your top choices soon. If they didn't quiz you too much then they probably like you. Fingers crossed for you. Me, I just got waitlisted by UChicago. I am not so disapointed as they wrote a really nice email explainng the lack of funds, and as you say, my fit is not as good there as other programs. Do you know how many people they admit at Chicago and how many they waitlist by any chance? I think my chances there are still slim.
  4. Seems like UChicago cultural anthro acceptances have been emailed out. Having not heard anything I am presuming I can expect a rejection some time down the road. Anyone heard anything else? acceptances or rejections?
  5. No not me. I just saw that there now. I haven't heard anything yet...... My interview for HASTS is next week; I'll let you know how it goes! How are your apps going? Any acceptances yet?
  6. And Berkeley? anyone heard anything back from them. I am waiting on the med anthro app there.
  7. Judging by previous years' posts, Harvard should be phoning people next week or the week after. Rejections arrive by mail in March apparently. Anyone heard from Berkeley-UCSF Med Anthro?
  8. Thanks persiandoc. I appreciate your advice. You seem to be well informed about these programs. I am based in the UK now and while I have good info on the programs here, I have not got access to inside perspectives on these US programs. My background is in science (PhD biochemistry) and I have done some research in ethnopharmacology (new drugs from trad. medicine). I am also interested in critical social theory. These two interests drive my current research direction: looking at the ethics in translating trad. medical knowledge into biomedicine. I am also interested in amazonian shamanism, but am not tied to a regional focus necessarily. I applied to the Berkeley-UCSF med anthro program. You make a good point in that Berkeley can benefit from Irvine; and that MIT and Harvard also reciprocally benefit from each other. Right now I am excited about hearing back from these programs. You know how it is!!! This is my second year applying. Last year I only applied to UK progs and didnt have great success. This year I am hoping to get something with funding. What is your research interest and preferred program?
  9. Thanks persiandoc. Yes, I'm interested in medical anthropology. I am particularly interested in traditional medicine and how it relates to biomedicine (STS basically). I am glad to hear that you hold Berkeley in good regard. I havent heard back from them yet but I would have a good fit there I think. Thanks for the Harvard tip too. I think all of my applications are to great places so I just hope that one of them comes through. I have acceptance in great places in the UK but the chance of funding here is grim. Wishing you the best with yours too!
  10. That's very interesting to hear. I thought that Berkeley was supposed to be more 'chilled out' than other schools. Has anybody got any info on what the Harvard anthropology scence is like? I get the impression that the Chicago program is probably the best, but who knows.
  11. Thanks for the advice! I am hoping that I get into one of these programs, but as you say, they are very tough so fingers crossed. Anybody else have any experiences with these dapartments?
  12. My research interests are at the intersection between social anthropology and medical anthropology and I am interested to hear peoples perspectives on the programs I am interested in. Any ideas on how UChicago (Soc Anth), Harvard (Med Anth), Berkeley (Med Anth) and HASTS compare? Best funding, best faculty, anecdotal evidence..... etc. Thanks!
  13. I got an interview at HASTS and I posted it on the results section. The program administrator contacted the candidates last week and finalised interview dates today. Good luck guys!
