Hello All, I was hoping I would be able to gain your thoughts on SOP's for masters degrees. I wanted to know how detailed my statement of intent/purpose should be, in regards to my future research. Should I be listing exactly what I want to do in my future research, or a broad overview and also should I specifically name professors I want to work with?

Thanks for all the information, I have tried contacting the department and I was not able to get sufficient information on the program. Th reason I am attracted to the program is because they have a wide variety of departments to choose classes from and the ability to be trained in many languages.

Hello, I am also interested in Vanderbilt, however my interests are in New Testament and Patrisitcs, hoping to pursue a PhD in early Christianity afterward. So I was wondering if you thought this would be a good fit for me? Another question I have is more technical, what are the differences between the MTS and MA?

Hello, I am applying to schools for fall 2012 and my top choice is Duke, however, I was wondering if someone could clarify what the differences were between the MTS offered through the divinity school and the MA offered through the religion department. Would the MA be better for future Ph.D. work? or funding?

There is a program at Oxford titled oriental studies and under the department they have a field of eastern Christianity. Also, Regis college and St. Micheal's, which are a part of the Toronto school of Theology have eastern Christianity diplomas and concentrations. Another place in Canada which is called Saint Paul University. Good luck in your studies.

Thanks for your suggestions, and yes I do have a theological background, with an emphasis on New Testament and early Christianity. I have considered Duke I was just unsure that the overall program would be a good fit for me, but my main interests lies in Ethiopic Christianity, Syriac is my minor field. I will check into Oxford and the other programs. Thanks agian.

Hello all, I am in my beginning stages of applying to graduate schools and I am planning to go into the fields of Syrian and Ethiopian Christianity. I am also intrested in oral traditions, hymns and relationships between early Jews and Christians in the Near East, especially in Syria and Ethiopia, as of right now I have a working knowledge of Ethiopic and other ancient languages. So I am wondering where do you all suggest I apply to? I appreciate all of your wise advice.

I was hoping some of you would be able to assist me evaluate the importance of the math portion of the GRE test for graduate work in theology. I am planning to pursue graduate studies in early Christianity during the fall of 2012 and I will graduate in my undergraduate program at a top-tier private school, with a 3.8 GPA. So I was wondering how important will my quantitative score be, with regards to acceptance to masters programs’?
