  1. Arghhhhh the wait is killing me. I've been offered a year long contract position that is set to start this summer but I can't accept the offer until I hear from the rest of my schools. The bad thing is that the person wants to have everything finalized within the next 2 weeks and I most likely won't have my grad app results yet. This means that the position will likely be offered to someone else. If I don't get in anywhere and I miss out on this opportunity I will be very very sad
  2. still waiting to hear from the University of Calgary and Laurier...how about everyone else?
  3. Thanks for the supportive words. It boggles my mind that someone with over 10 years experience would get rejected because of a gpa issue. Arghhhhhh lol I think that if you take a few more courses to bump up your grades a bit then you have a really great chance of getting in next year.
  4. Ya I applied knowing that my gpa was 2% under the cutoff but I applied anyway because my supervisor really wanted to work with me so I thought I had a really great chance. I was really upset by her choice of words...she said that the department was only choosing high calibre students because they are trying to increase the prestige of the department. So she basically said that they avoid applicants like me because I'm not a high calibre student It's a very silly situation because she really wanted me to be her student next year but the Chair of the department was pretty adamant that she not request me (and it's not like I don't know her work or her lab very well...I've been her Lab Manager since September). I was devastated but now I'm over it. If a department implies that I'm not good enough for them than I don't really want to be there anyways. My first choice is Laurier (2 year MSW stream) but I'm having doubts about my chances. In past years they have gone with candidates who have an A- in their last 2 years and 2 years of paid human service experience...I only have a B+ and 1.5 years of human service experience (unpaid, part time). Most of my full-time, paid experiences have been in research. I honestly feel like I will be rejected across the board (all 6 applications) but I applied for an online B.S.W degree through Dalhousie that I'm hoping I will get into. It's a 24 month long program that's done online (practicum done in my home city) with a summer visit to Dalhousie for a few weeks. If I get into this program and complete it then I can apply for advanced stream M.S.W's in a couple of years. I'm 25 now so my goal is to get a Master's degree by the time I'm 30. This plan B seems like it could work out for me...hopefully lol What do you plan on doing to strengthen your application, if you don't mind me asking.
  5. I'm glad to hear that you have a plan B in the works. I actually have a plan B that I'm excited about so if I don't get into grad school at least I have something else to look foward to. My application to Ryerson was for an M.A. in psychological science (cognitive aging) and my potential supervisor let me know that my application would not be forwarded to faculty via the online system because my GPA is too low
  6. I'm sorry to hear about your applications I'm still waiting for the University of Calgary and Laurier's 2 year stream decisions.... *sigh*
  7. I laughed out loud! Amazing comic
  8. I applied to McGill and The University of Calgary for counselling psych and I haven't heard anything yet. I too got that mass email from McGill on Friday. I was really surprised they sent that email to everyone.
  9. thanks for the advice. It turns out that the meeting was to let me know that I will not be accepted because of my low gpa.
  10. So to make a long story short... I'm currently a Lab Manager and I've applied for the Master's program (in psychology) at the institution I work for. My POI is my current supervisor. My supervisor was unable to see my online application because I did not meet the minimum GPA requirement but she told me that she was going to request the hard copy from the Graduate Studies Department. The other day she sent me an email asking me to come into her office to discuss my application (my meeting with her is tomorrow). A few hours later she forwarded me and her current grad students info on scholarships and encouraged us to apply for them (the scholarships are only for students at our institution). Before I submitted my application to the school I had a meeting with my supervisor to discuss my ideas for my thesis and I think that the meeting went okay. So my question is... Is this going to be a regular "grad applicant interview"? I'm very confused as to how to prepare for it because it can technically go many ways: 1. she may tell me that she couldn't access the hard copy and I'm not getting in. 2. She may interview me like she has other candidates, Or 3. She may tell me that she's recommending me for acceptance. My emotions go up and down because I have no idea if the news will be good or bad or if I'm actually being interviewed. She flat out told me that she prefers to take her current Lab Managers over new applicants but she has also brought in 3 potential candidates to view the lab space. GAHHHHHH... what would you do if you were me?
  11. On most days I prepare myself for: Accepted: 0 Rejected: 6 When I'm feeling slightly optimistic: Accepted: 1 Rejected: 5 I hate this process :'(
  12. No York wasn't my first choice. I'm not sure if it will be easier or harder if more rejections start to roll in lol
  13. I cried on and off for a good half hour but I'm better now. Yes, I applied to the University of Calgary (for social work and counselling psychology), Wilfrid Laurier (social work), Ryerson (psych science), and McGill (counselling psych). I'm assuming it was my gpa even though I have at least a B+ for my last two years. I bet they had very strong applicants with higher gpa's
  14. So guess who got rejected from York today.....MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE P.S. I cried all the way home lol
  15. I'm really sorry to hear about the rejection I applied there for the 2-year stream, did you apply for the advanced standing? Also, did they update your status on their application webpage or did you receive a letter/email?
  16. I wouldn't worry too much about it since Bazin repeats the claim in other works. You're technically not wrong but some profs who know Bazin inside out and upside down may wonder why you chose not to refer to the first work. I can only imagine that a very nit picky person would wonder such a thing so don't sweat it.
  17. I got rejected from my dream school on Friday...which just happened to be April Fool's *sigh*. My boyfriend was at the gym so I sent him a text letting him know that I had been rejected. His response was, "I'm sorry to hear that but now you can spend more time with me". Not the response I wanted to hear!
