  1. Hi all, Just took GRE today and got 157 V. I am not a native English speaker so I need to spend hundreds of hours in memorizing those words. In fact, I was still going over the flash cards in the waiting room at the test center. However, the fact is, there were no words on the test that I didn't understand, and that text completion sentences were not difficult to understand either. If I suck at sentence completion that eventually pulled down my score, it would be the logic part right? Anyone got any idea on how to improve in that sense? Or, I might suck at reading comprehension, who knows. I am scheduling another test! I mean I need at least 5 points higher, any suggestions on prep are welcome! Thanks
  2. Thank you Alienatedlaborer! MAPSS is only a one-year program, and I am afraid that I could not improve much during this year. (?) I didnt hear any thing good about MAPSS, so,.....I dont know. So far I didnt hear anything good about Draper either......and seems like nobody cares about Newschool. Hmm..
  3. Hi guys, I have narrowed down my options and I would like to hear what you guys have to say. NYU Draper Interdisciplinary master's program in Humanities and Social Though VS The New School Sociology MA 1. I am an international student, and got my BA in english. My potential subfield is Gender/Sexuality/Deviance. 2. Neither of them provides funding. And they cost pretty much the same. 3. NYU requires a MA thesis while NewSchool only has a final written examination. 4. A prof from Duke told me that Newschool has fabulous profs but MA students seldom get paid attention to. 5. Another prof told me both interdis and dis programs can be good for me to get into a good Phd program. I am not from the US and didnt know much about american grad schools. Can u guys help me decide which school is better for me? My goal is to get into Top ranked Phd programs in Sociology, Anthro(maybe?), Gender Studies with full funding in two years. Thanks you guys for helping me out! Widefellow
  4. Thank you all guys. I really appreciate it, though I am getting confused. I will wait for Columbia and NYU, and maybe CU is my top choice if I could get in Otherwise It is no easy
  5. Thanks Ewurgler I am accepted by New School and MAPSS, and still waiting for Columbia and NYU. Are you saying that MAPSS is probably best for me so far, as a stepping stone? Sorry I am not quite sure if I got what you meant.
  6. What if we dont consider the cost then? By the way I got accepted by the MA program at New School, not PHD. Seems like MAPSS sends out quite a lot of offers. My situation is that this year I dont have the luck to get into PHD programs, I was planning to get my MA degree first and after two years I will apply to decent ranked PHD programs. Which one of those below may give me better chance after two years? 1 New School for Social Research Sociology, I have heard that the Sociology program is pretty good but I got no funding, and it will cost a lot living in NYC. 2.U Chicago MAPSS. No idea about this program. Not sure about its reputation. 3.NYU Draper program, dont know if you guys heard of it or not, its a inter-disciplinary MA program in Social Thought. 4.Columbia, Anthropology. My subfield is gender/sexuality/culture. And I dont really have related work at undergraduate. Not sure what to take. 5. California State University, Northridge. Sociology. Quite not expensive but not well ranked program as New School University. Thank you guys for giving me advice!
  7. Just got accepted with no fundings. Anyone has any ideas about this school? also, rejected by Uchicago Sociology but offered the admission to MAPSS comparing between New School and MAPSS, which is better you guys think? Thanks

  12. why you guys so sure that we are waitlisted?
  13. I have sent them one inquiry email. I know I am very impatient, but I have no choice. lets see what they have to say. If they dont reply then I am rejected. Cross your fingers man

  19. Any one heard from NWU today?
  20. Thanks Beeswax, Now im waiting for rej.
  21. No word yet. Anyone knows how many applied and how many they would admit this year? have they sent out rejections yet?
  22. No word from UCSD yet?
  23. According to the results, most of those rejected are internationals, so I would say no word for internationals might be good news, but for americans, it could be any situation. I am just giving myself a little bit hope.
  24. Thanks Zoeker, Waiting to get an email at 4 10 am here is not a good thing. Hmm By the way, by "non-traditional" you mean...? Congratulations!
  25. Hey Zoeker, share more details with us? Dont want to believe that another rejection letter is coming. Thanks
