  1. All Princeton admits were notified, I'm afraid to say. But don't worry, the season isn't over!
  2. Sorry, I just wanted to make sure people didn't think that Princeton rejection in the results was an indicator of anything. S/he probably called admissions and found out a little ahead of time. If you haven't heard from Princeton, nothing's wrong at all. I know what its like to watch the results survey and think that because I haven't heard anything and others have that something is a miss.
  3. Also, wanted to chime in on this. Princeton decisions have not gone out yet. I can't really say much more than that, but it shouldn't be all that long before the letters do go out.
  4. I hear ya. Last year the program I got into (and eventually joined) alerted me in mid-February, but my formal rejections didn't show up until March. One of those rejections came from my alma mater where I was still attending undergrad, and I learned that what they had done was just rejected waves based on how far they got in the decision process. But then my current program now has their list of people even though they haven't sent out an decisions at all. When you hear depends so much on 1) the academic calendar of the school and 2)how big the applicant pool is and how they sift through it. My bit of advice is to get your mind off it. Its out of your hands, so you may as well have some fun till you hear!
  5. I didn't hear about a rejection from Duke until March of last year. My sense was that they do several rounds of deliberation and cut by waves. Its still a waiting game, and not a comfortable one, but maybe chalk it up to still being under consideration?
  6. You have to check with your institution, but I know that my program explicitly prohibits working during my PhD. And, in all honesty, I can't imagine trying to juggle a full time job with how many things the department expects me to show up to and participate in. Sorry I can't be more helpful but to say that you need to ask wherever it is you go for PhD, but its not very common.
  7. I was given that same response at several programs, and only one panned out. I would take it as follows: he's interested in what you said in your email and he's going to be looking for your application to see if you are a good fit for the program. He certainly has some pull even in a joint appointment, but he may not be on the admission committee. If he gets really interested he may put in a strong recommendation. Best of luck to you!
  8. Got into MAPSS with half tuition and will decline today
  9. Congrats Persiandoc! You have been delivered the great gift of a spot at NYU! I haven't heard from Duke or NYU and am taking that as two rejections. My stipend at Princeton is 26,785 for five years and I got 3,000 for each of my first two years. I don't think there's much of a teaching requirement there that I'd have to fulfill. In any case, I'm so happy for you! The waiting is over and you got one hell of a deal! Did you hear from a POI or was there an official email?
  10. I'd be dead if I didn't run for the team here. Its the only 2 hours of the day I'm not thinking about decisions or working on my BA thesis. That's right, this shit haunts me in my dreams.
  11. I agree with dlb89. You are on the top of two waitlists, and its bound to happen that someone turns down an offer at one or the other. I know the waiting is what's crushing you right now, but you have to take f pride in the fact that you have been taken extremely seriously as an applicant. Had it been any other year, you'd be in already. Lets see what NYU says.
  12. I just wanted to write and let anyone who is applying to Chicago or anyone who has gotten in that they can feel free to contact me with questions about Hyde Park and life in Chicago. I'm an undergrad at Uchicago and have had a lot of contact with the anthro grad students here (seriously, they just embed themselves in the undergrad population and yet are so distinct from us, its weird). So please Private Message me if anything comes up and you want a quick reply. All the Best!
  13. Just got a letter from Michigan saying I wasn't admitted. Not to broken up about it since my heart was only half into that application, but just so everyone knows that decisions are on their way.
  14. Yes, sorry, I forgot you werent applying to Duke. But its looking like Princeton is going win this and I would turn down other offers unless they really surprise me. Will send info when I hear from NYU! Best of luck Persiandoc, I'm pulling for you.
  15. Hey Persiandoc, no I totally get your perspective. I only posted my acceptance once (I'm the comment that start's thrilled) and have only heard from Princeton. Right now my top choice is Princeton as I just recieved the offer they are willing to extend to me followed by Duke and then NYU. However, if you get wait listed at either, know that there is a 99% chance I wont take either if I'm accepted. The offer at Princeton is just too competitive right now. Also, I'm not leaving the forum, I'll still post what info I get from other departments so that you all will get the fastest information that you can. You all were nice enough to me, I figure I can still offer some good info.
