  1. VG/VG VG/VG VG/G Not recommended Booooo!
  2. Both Dr. Bao and Jankowiak are awesome. Congratulations! You are going to love it
  3. I did my undergrad at UNLV and can say, in all honesty, the majority of professors are AMAZING. Who is your POI? There is much more to living in Las Vegas than strippers and casinos. Once you get off the strip, it is pretty much like any other suburb in America. Well, except for the occasional neighborhood casino, which house most of the movie theaters and the slot machines in the grocery stores. You will get use to it though. In fact, you won’t even notice it after awhile. Plus Las Vegas is a great place to study cultural anthropology! I should warn you that the neighborhood right around the university isn’t that nice. I suggest looking for housing a little ways away in Green Valley, Henderson or Silverado Ranch. It will only be a 10-30 minute commute, depending on which area you choose, but it is much nicer. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. Congratulations! You’re going to love it there.
  4. I agree, it does seem a bit early. However, it seems that schools sent out acceptance/rejections earlier this year than they did last year. I'm sure I am reading too much into all of this. Ugh
  5. There is an advisory that was posted today that says "FastLane will be unavailable Sunday, March 18, from 12:01 AM to 8:00 AM ET for scheduled maintenance. We apologize for any inconvenience." Hmmmm......
  6. Congratulations!! I know being waitlisted isn't ideal, but you're still in the game. Not sure how, but I must have missed the bio acceptance. Oh well, it was a long shot anyway. Thanks and good luck!
  7. Has anyone heard from Rutgers bio anthropology?? I saw a couple posts from cultural but nothing from bio yet.
  8. You don’t need a Ph.D. to be published. If you have solid research, it is possible to be published in any journal. Usually, it is a blind review, which helps ensure that the reviewers won't be bias. Obviously, there are ways for reviewers to sometimes know or figure out who wrote the article, but for most part they just receive an article to review, without knowledge of the author. I say find a journal that your research will fit well within their scope and submit it. It is going to look a lot better on your CV if you were published in a well respected journal rather than something that no one has heard of.
  9. I received the same email this morning. To be honest, I don't have a good feeling about it.
  10. Has anyone heard anything from Duke or UC Davis for evolutionary anthro? I saw someone posted that Duke was sending out acceptance notices last week but haven’t seen anything on the results board.
  11. For bio anthro I highly recommend anything by Frans De Waal, especially “Our Inner Ape.” Even if bio anthropology isn’t your thing, Dr. De Waal is such a good author. All of his books are really easy to read. Also “Mothers and Others” by Sarah Hrdy is great. I recently read “Almost Chimpanzee” by Jon Cohen, who is a journalist, not a scientist. The book is really well researched and a fantastic read. Even though my concentration isn’t cultural, I really enjoyed “Nisa” by Marjorie Shostak. It is about the life of a !Kung woman. I honestly couldn’t put it down. I better stop there or I will go on all afternoon
  12. This actually makes me feel a little better about the CUNY rejection. What I heard/read was that there were 10 people interviewed for NYU and from that they were going to pick 4 for Bio Anth. I have no idea if it's true or not. Good luck! I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get in.
  13. I was rejected from CUNY on the 18th also. Is there any validity to the no interview means rejection at NYU rumor??
  14. Congratulations Persiandoc!!! This is wonderful news!
  15. Hi Designated, Congratulations!! Would you mind telling me if you are Bio or Cultural? Thanks and Congratulations again!
  16. Ahhhhh! Me too! There hasn't been a whole lot posted about BU from those with inside connections. I wish I knew more. It doesn't look like we are going to hear back today.
  17. Maybe it's a good sign we haven't heard anything?
  18. Thanks Persiandoc, I’ve been reading for awhile so I’ve shared in your suffering a bit. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you! That wasn’t me that posted on results page. There is still hope.
  19. Hi everyone, I’m a longtime lurker, first time poster. Rumor has it BU was suppose to send out decisions today. Anyone hear anything?
