  1. Those rankings are basically crap as far as how they're assessed, but unfortunately some people do put stock in them and they can have an affect on the overall reputation of the school (mostly for people who don't pay attention to how they're determined...). I definitely wouldn't base your decisions off of them or let them change your mind on any program. Just got an email from Portland State, anyone else? I wasn't expecting anything from them until April...
  2. Both of the primary investigators in the labs I've worked in went to Purdue (one for PhD, one for MS & PhD) and loved it. If you're interested in research, I've heard it's awesome. The vast majority of my undergrad deptartment's faculty graduated from there, I only heard good things, though I've never spoken to anyone who wasn't a PhD who went there so I don't know as much about the clinical aspect versus the research side.
  3. Thanks, still 3 more to go though so I'm sure I'll ruin the streak at some point just grateful to have options. Yeah, there is still the possibility of an assistantship, I'm not sure how much it will cover though. I don't know, maybe I shouldn't write them off so quickly, I've never visited before so maybe I should make the trip for the open house. I've heard awesome things about the program, but with the tuition being so high plus a high cost of living, I just don't know if the positives outweigh the negatives when I have other funded offers...we'll see I guess! Good luck with the rest of your apps! I hope Pitt gets back to us earlier than they usually do... (edited for typos )
  4. I don't know anything specific to answer your questions about UTA, but I've been offered/interviewed with a couple of schools for assistantships and they can be any of those that you listed. I was offered one that was more clerical, with some grading on the side. Another was more research-based. That's a bummer you wouldn't know until May, good luck with your decisions. At least you're in the fortunate position of having options
  5. Got into Boston University today but there is no way I can go without funding and I wasn't offered a scholarship. Tuition is over 40k/year! Crazy. Congrats to others who got in and double congrats to those with funded offers
  6. Someone from New York posted on the results board saying they got an acceptance letter in the mail from BU. So keep an eye out in the mail. I live across the country so I'm not getting my hopes up for a couple more days.
  7. Did anyone's Washington acceptance email mention anything about funding?
  8. Agreed, though it'll still be tough to swallow without funding--so expensive! I'm not getting my hopes up since I talked to Dr. Spencer and she basically told me she wishes they had more to offer but they really do lack in the funding to offer Master's students. But I wouldn't discount it either way, it's such a great program! Are you thinking that's where you'll be in the fall or are you still weighing options at this point?
  9. I haven't heard anything from them at all, but in the past they've sent out results in the mail and around this time in March (last year was March 9th). I'm hoping they're on a similar timeline this year!
  10. Thank you! Sorry you didn't get good news, but you still have lots of great schools to hear from, don't lose hope yet! I think we'll hear from BU and Vandy within the next week
  11. So excited about Washington! Got into the Med-SLP program, but I haven't received any email yet and my supplemental application page hasn't changed, only my main UW Grad School app page. Anyone else the same or has everyone who got in received an email? Also has anyone heard about funding yet?
  12. Glad today is turning out to be a busier day on the results board! Congrats to everyone who has received good news so far today!!
  13. I'm interested in adult neurogenic disorders as well as voice disorders. I work in voice and speech research for individuals with Parkinson's disease now so that has really sparked my interest in voice disorders. I'm also interested in dysphagia, though to a slightly lesser degree.
  14. I really hope so too! It's now 5 weeks since the apps were due and they said 4 on the website, so they really should be coming soon...fingers and toes crossed!! I say it's never too early for Thin Mints! Though I'm more of a Samoa person myself
  15. I think I saw a couple that said they would take transfers but you could only transfer in a few classes, so you're basically starting over anyway. Most programs I saw said pretty blatantly that they don't accept transfer students.
  16. Have you asked them about your likelihood of getting an assistantship your second year though? I know at UW-Seattle for example, it basically does not happen that first years get assistantship positions, however you CAN apply for them during your second year. Even if you only had an assistantship your second year, it could cut your costs down to a more affordable rate. I know at my undergrad, we never had levelers (out of field applicants completing their pre-req work) in TA positions, but some did get hired in research labs, either paid hourly or through work-study. Then, as they went through the program and finished more coursework they could apply for other positions. It could be worth asking the program directors at the programs you are admitted to. You don't want to write someone off because of cost without exploring other options, especially if it's a school you otherwise love
  17. Oh, I forgot to mention that too. I don't have any experience with the school personally but a good friend of mine went there for undergrad and LOVED it. Congrats on your acceptance
  18. I would ask for an extension. Most schools will give you until April 15th, but we've seen on the boards that that isn't always the case. It's worth a try though, the worst they can do is say no. I don't quite get how schools can force you to make a decision so early or how some schools aren't sending out acceptances until April. How is anyone supposed to make such a big decision in two weeks or less?
  19. Cost is going to be a huge factor for me too. Have you contacted programs about assistantships? Even if you can only get one your second year, it can really cut down costs as they usually come with some sort of tuition waiver or reduction and/or a stipend. If you can qualify for work-study that can be a good option too. Many professors will also hire students hourly to work in their labs if you're interested in research at all. I also heard back from FAFSA within 48 hours of submitting my application. Not sure when we'll hear back from schools on aid though.
  20. I was thinking the same thing! There goes sleeping, haha
  21. Congratulations!! You've been accepted to awesome programs already Do you have a top choice at this point?
  22. Oh man, I wish. Yesterday I had a big white envelope in the mail and was so excited I practically threw the rest to the ground. Turns out, it was some packet about my 401-k full of useless information I already knew. So disappointed! I'm hoping the tail end of this week will be better in terms of numbers of decisions sent out!
  23. Absolutely nothing. Same for yesterday. Hoping for a better Wednesday...
  24. If what the professor said is true then that's bad form on your POI's part, but in either case it's bad form of the professor to have told you in the first place. I would keep yourself out of it (certainly not bring it up to the POI) and follow your gut as far as whether or not you should still pursue working with that POI.
  25. Why oh why is this week so slow on the results board?! I thought this would have been a big week for us. I'll be out of town visiting schools in Maryland and interviewing for GAships Thursday-Sunday so I'm sure THAT will be when everything comes in the mail, knowing my luck.
