  1. That sounds very interesting! I have a BA in linguistics (as well as SLHS) and I see we're both from CO, we may have been studying in the same department So at this point you do not have to have a particularly narrow research focus? Part of what deterred me from applying straight to a combined MA/PhD program was that I feel like I have a couple of areas that interest me and I was under the impression to apply for a PhD, I'd need to know exactly what I wanted to study. What programs are you applying to? I came across several that seemed to have great aphasia research going on (that's one of my interest areas as well).
  2. Both Maryland schools responded early last year too. Towson offered early admissions to people who applied early in the fall, so I submitted my application there in October and received early admissions. They send out the rest of their admissions based on the response they get from early admits I guess. I don't expect to hear anything from the other schools I applied to for another three weeks or so. Two of the schools I applied to responded in the last couple of days of March last year. I feel like that's really late when we're supposed to make decisions by April 15th :/
  3. Don't worry too much at this point. Most results don't go out until March anyway. Lalabooks, what schools are you waiting on?
  4. I'm applying for my MA, but I've been considering going on for a Ph.D. after I finish and get my CCCs. Have you been working as an SLP? Or are you going straight into a Ph.D. program? What is/are your research interest(s)?
  5. Thank you! My top pick seems to change all the time, haha. I visited Washington and Vanderbilt and loved both of them, but would need funding to realistically afford either one of them. Between UMCP and Towson, I have no idea! I'm flying out to Maryland in March to visit both, so hopefully I'll have a better idea then. I've never visited either school, but I'm from MD originally and have tons of family there so that's how the schools wound up on my list Where are you applying? Do you have a top choice?
  6. I also got accepted to Maryland's 2-year program, but on Feb. 9th. I submitted my application way back in October, was complete in early December (LORs took longer), not sure if that matters. They seem to send out acceptances in waves. I got the same news about funding and also extended my decision date to April 15th, as funding will probably play a huge role in my decision. I never received a more specific department email though. Kaitjg, would you mind sending me a copy of what yours said (with any of your personal information removed, of course), so that I can see what it said? Is there an admitted student open house? I was hoping they'd send something, but I still haven't gotten anything and my acceptance was a week ago... Don't lose hope yet, it's still only mid-February and last year they were still sending out acceptances in mid-March! It's still early
  7. Agreed. And why does the year I'm applying have to be a leap year?? I can't wait for March!
  8. FWIW, I went back to re-read the first two applications I sent in (way back in early October) to steal bits of for other SOPs and noticed a couple of errors in BOTH of them, as well as a silly grammatical error (word missing) from my resume. I was completely convinced that I should write those two off as losses and called them my "practice applications". They're now my first two acceptances. Don't stress too much--if you didn't catch the mistakes the first 100 reads, it's likely no one else will either, especially adcoms who are reading hundreds of these things in a short timeframe.
  9. I've lived in Colorado for the better part of my life, did my undergrad in Boulder, and am dreading leaving the state for grad school--and I'm someone who dislikes the cold. Colorado has the best of all worlds: we get a a healthy dose of each season and no humidity. Our snows typically come in waves, are light (rarely that heavy, wet snow that is typical out east), and the next day you could be outside without a coat on. It's rare that a snow isn't melted within a week or less. People who have never been to Denver/Colorado tend not to believe me when I assure them it doesn't snow THAT much here. Yes, we will get large snowstorms a couple times a year (and a massive one every other year or so, it seems), but in between those storms you'll see people in shorts in the middle of February.
  10. I'm sure you'll hear soon! Is it a 3-year program at Towson as well? I didn't realize you were applying there too, where else are you looking?
  11. Gah, I feel your pain, that was an agonizing 24 hours. I checked mine obsessively and it wound up posting at about 8pm on the 9th, after it said 48-72 hours from the 8th. I got an email at 5 am on the 10th telling me to check the status, but by then I already knew . The acceptance didn't have a lot of information really, it was from the grad school not the department. I'm hoping the acceptance coming in the mail will have more from the department as to some sort of open house, funding info, etc. Good luck!! Let us know when you find out. And if you happen to get more information than I did, please share
  12. Honestly, my top choice seems to change every few minutes, haha. There are a few that I still haven't visited yet and funding will be a huge factor for some of them, so I'll have to wait and see! How about you, do you have a clear top runner for your schools? Also, if you want to better judge when you will start hearing from your schools, go back and look at last year's results search and check when they were notifying people last year. So far, the two I've heard from were pretty spot on with last year's response times (UMD was maybe a week earlier). I'm sure you'll hear soon though!
  13. Got an acceptance email from Towson University today My birthday was Wednesday, first acceptance Thursday, second Friday--easily the best week I can remember!!
  14. Congratulations!!! I'm very happy for you, you deserve it!
  15. Thanks guys! It's such a relief, I've been saying all along that as long as I get in to one program I'll be extremely happy. Good luck to all of you in the next month or so! I wish the rest of the programs would decide so quickly!
  16. I guess the 48-72 hours was a conservative estimate. It changed within 24 hours and with good news--first acceptance! So excited
  17. If you don't mind me asking, where were you in school for SLP? I'm applying to SLP programs now and hope I won't end up in a program I hate enough to make me leave. Was it mostly the girls? Or the program too?
  18. SO mean! Well, when I was just obsessing over what my page meant by looking through last year's posts in the results survey, it looks like they send admission and waitlist notices out in waves. So I don't really know if the timing means anything at all :/. I truly hate this part of the process...
  19. Thanks! Me too. I'm waivering between "I'm totally in" to "I'm not getting in there or anywhere else for that matter" ever few minutes, it seems. Did your email just say "Yay, we accept you" (in so many words...) or did it direct you to the supplemental page? I can't tell if no email yet means it's bad news, or just that I checked the site before they sent an email out. Or neither, and I'm just over-analyzing things that are completely out of my control. Probably that.
  20. I just checked my supplemental application for University of Maryland - College Park (I applied to the 2-year program) and it says a decision has been made and will be available online within 48-72 hours of 2/8/12. ASJFKLJFKLDSJFL if you made the decision why can't I see it now?!?!?! Damn my obsessive application status checking! This is worse than knowing nothing at all....
  21. Well we'll have to keep each other posted when we hear from those three then! Good luck!!! Who knows, maybe we'll be in the same program this fall
  22. I don't remember specifying on mine either, I think you end up in the three-year if you don't have the pre-reqs. I hope we get good news soon! Are you applying to any other Maryland schools?
  23. Thanks for your response and congratulations on being accepted!!! I hope that means they're close to sending out answers to the two-year program applicants as well, that's what I'm waiting on! Your stats are awesome, I'm sure this is just one of many acceptances coming your way What field is your undergrad background in?
  24. There were a couple of posts in the results from University of Maryland-College Park. Anyone else receive admits there already? The supplemental application page says results will be sent via mail but those were reported as being via email, so I'm curious if those were not for the MA program? If they are, info on stats/content of the email would be appreciated!
