  1. Thankfully, I am getting in-state tuition, so it's not as expensive as it could be, but I am also getting direct sub- and unsubsidized loans. Also, I am still applying for GA positions, which would help tremendously!
  2. These are not my own, but I think they are cool... 1. print. laminate. cut. repeat. 2. R (picture of a tick) you'll 8 3. SLPs Rock Talk!
  3. Hahahahahah. Is this "bish" serious?!?!? Thanks for the laugh...
  4. I am 28! I haven't told anyone this, but it took me almost 2 years to finish my pre-reqs. Due to extenuating circumstances I had to take an Incomplete in 3 classes, which I completed a year later. The first time I took the GRE, I got a 390 in verbal...The first time I applied, none of my slp pre-req class professors would write me a letter of recommendation... So, I got a great job working with a child with autism full time and made enough money to take 3 months off work to retake my GRE and work on my applications. It finally paid off.
  5. I really wish you the best...I've been thinking a lot about those who may not have gotten in anywhere at this point and it really pisses me off. I only got into 1/5 of the schools I applied to and I have a really strong profile!!! I really think that admissions boards need to start including WHY they are not accepting us in their admissions letters...so at least we would know that they did their job and actually read through everything we submitted.
  6. Although gradcafe did increase my stress level, it did help me gauge my results. Before I even knew about this site, I got accepted to one school on 1/31, which is VERY early. Since that acceptance, I checked the board and read info on the 4 other schools I applied to. Others were getting accepted and I had not heard anything. I figured that that meant that I was either waitlisted or rejected, which I was...The fact of the matter is that if I had not been accepted to one school so early on, the past 3 months would have been hell for me. I hope no one takes this the wrong way, but has anyone not been accepted anywhere yet? I am only asking b/c it seems like everyone here has been accepted to at least one school...
  7. I just emailed Loyola, asking them to please "inform me as to which of my qualifications were not competitive enough. I spent a lot of time preparing my application and attended an open house where Janet Preis expressed that she gives every application the attention and consideration it deserves. Therefore, I would appreciate a little bit more information, besides the fact that there were many more applicants, as to why I was not quite good enough to get accepted to your program." I will let you all know what they say.
  8. Hi Gretel. Thanks for the reply to my post. I will contact them. I saw the Columbia TC posts on the results page and I think it is completely f-ed up that those people said that. I have a 3.41 undergrad GPA in animal science. I have a better GPA in my slp pre-reqs and a 1390 GRE, but I thought that my undergrad GPA could possibly hold me back... I thought and still think that my experiences are above average. I don't think I am better than anyone else but how many people have actually worked with Dr. Greenspan and had their own clients for 6 years? I had a letter from Dr. Greenspan (written before he died) and one from an SLP i worked with, in addition to 2 from professors. Although I only got into one school, I would be disgusted if someone made a remark about my 3.41 GPA. You are right, qualifications cannot be quantified, but how do admissions boards determine which experiences are deemed to be qualified and which are just not cutting the mustard? In my case, I think that if my experiences were impressive enough to the board, they would have overlooked my 3.41 GPA....but clearly they did not. I, also, just wanted to vent
  9. Thanks all of you! I mean I have nothing against Loyola. I actually really like the school...but don't talk about my qualifications not being strong enough unless you can provide me with any grounds for that statement. Where was I deficient? What doesn't make me good enough for your school? That's what I want to know.
  10. Hey! You are the first person to respond to my post! So far, I got into Towson, waitlisted at UMD and just got rejected from Loyola. Even if I get into any of the schools off the waitlist, I really like Towson and I think that is where I will prolly be going. I posted some of my thoughts on the other forum so I will cut and paste them to you and add extra stuff. Have you visited either of the schools? Did you get accepted to all of them? Steph
  11. Just got my decision from loyola, the last school I was waiting on. Got rejected! Straight up! To any of you still waiting on them, the letter I received was pretty rough. "Your qualifications were not sufficiently competitive when compared to the entire pool of applicants"
  12. I have only been accepted to one school so I don't have the opportunity to decline, but I am going to take my name off of the waitlist at at least one of the schools I got waitlisted at because I am sure someone else would like to go there more than I. If I knew I wasn't going to go a school, I would decline as soon as possible...so that others (and I am sure there are PLENTY) don't have to wait until May to find out if they have made it off the waitlist. Just wanted to put in my 2 cents. PS. TAYFRAY, glad to hear you got everything figured out! I wish you the best with school and your family
  13. Reject Monkey (Name of one of my dog's monkeys...)
  14. Heather, I just emailed Bamdad and he emailed me telling me I am on hold list. I said that I didn't receive anything so he is looking into it. This is NOT the first problem I have had with GWU application process and it's compltetly disrespectful. I put a lot of time into my application. Why can't they do the same. I hear you about drive time. I live in burtonsville and although I can get to Towson in 35 minutes w/o traffic, it could take me 2 hours in traffic...ugh..same with GW. Loyola is also very close to me! I applied to 2 yr programs. Let me know what you decide!
