  1. Thankfully, I am getting in-state tuition, so it's not as expensive as it could be, but I am also getting direct sub- and unsubsidized loans. Also, I am still applying for GA positions, which would help tremendously!
  2. These are not my own, but I think they are cool... 1. print. laminate. cut. repeat. 2. R (picture of a tick) you'll 8 3. SLPs Rock Talk!
  3. Hahahahahah. Is this "bish" serious?!?!? Thanks for the laugh...
  4. I am 28! I haven't told anyone this, but it took me almost 2 years to finish my pre-reqs. Due to extenuating circumstances I had to take an Incomplete in 3 classes, which I completed a year later. The first time I took the GRE, I got a 390 in verbal...The first time I applied, none of my slp pre-req class professors would write me a letter of recommendation... So, I got a great job working with a child with autism full time and made enough money to take 3 months off work to retake my GRE and work on my applications. It finally paid off.
  5. I really wish you the best...I've been thinking a lot about those who may not have gotten in anywhere at this point and it really pisses me off. I only got into 1/5 of the schools I applied to and I have a really strong profile!!! I really think that admissions boards need to start including WHY they are not accepting us in their admissions letters...so at least we would know that they did their job and actually read through everything we submitted.
  6. Although gradcafe did increase my stress level, it did help me gauge my results. Before I even knew about this site, I got accepted to one school on 1/31, which is VERY early. Since that acceptance, I checked the board and read info on the 4 other schools I applied to. Others were getting accepted and I had not heard anything. I figured that that meant that I was either waitlisted or rejected, which I was...The fact of the matter is that if I had not been accepted to one school so early on, the past 3 months would have been hell for me. I hope no one takes this the wrong way, but has anyone not been accepted anywhere yet? I am only asking b/c it seems like everyone here has been accepted to at least one school...
  7. I just emailed Loyola, asking them to please "inform me as to which of my qualifications were not competitive enough. I spent a lot of time preparing my application and attended an open house where Janet Preis expressed that she gives every application the attention and consideration it deserves. Therefore, I would appreciate a little bit more information, besides the fact that there were many more applicants, as to why I was not quite good enough to get accepted to your program." I will let you all know what they say.
  8. Hi Gretel. Thanks for the reply to my post. I will contact them. I saw the Columbia TC posts on the results page and I think it is completely f-ed up that those people said that. I have a 3.41 undergrad GPA in animal science. I have a better GPA in my slp pre-reqs and a 1390 GRE, but I thought that my undergrad GPA could possibly hold me back... I thought and still think that my experiences are above average. I don't think I am better than anyone else but how many people have actually worked with Dr. Greenspan and had their own clients for 6 years? I had a letter from Dr. Greenspan (written before he died) and one from an SLP i worked with, in addition to 2 from professors. Although I only got into one school, I would be disgusted if someone made a remark about my 3.41 GPA. You are right, qualifications cannot be quantified, but how do admissions boards determine which experiences are deemed to be qualified and which are just not cutting the mustard? In my case, I think that if my experiences were impressive enough to the board, they would have overlooked my 3.41 GPA....but clearly they did not. I, also, just wanted to vent
  9. Thanks all of you! I mean I have nothing against Loyola. I actually really like the school...but don't talk about my qualifications not being strong enough unless you can provide me with any grounds for that statement. Where was I deficient? What doesn't make me good enough for your school? That's what I want to know.
  10. Hey! You are the first person to respond to my post! So far, I got into Towson, waitlisted at UMD and just got rejected from Loyola. Even if I get into any of the schools off the waitlist, I really like Towson and I think that is where I will prolly be going. I posted some of my thoughts on the other forum so I will cut and paste them to you and add extra stuff. Have you visited either of the schools? Did you get accepted to all of them? Steph
  11. Just got my decision from loyola, the last school I was waiting on. Got rejected! Straight up! To any of you still waiting on them, the letter I received was pretty rough. "Your qualifications were not sufficiently competitive when compared to the entire pool of applicants"
  12. I have only been accepted to one school so I don't have the opportunity to decline, but I am going to take my name off of the waitlist at at least one of the schools I got waitlisted at because I am sure someone else would like to go there more than I. If I knew I wasn't going to go a school, I would decline as soon as possible...so that others (and I am sure there are PLENTY) don't have to wait until May to find out if they have made it off the waitlist. Just wanted to put in my 2 cents. PS. TAYFRAY, glad to hear you got everything figured out! I wish you the best with school and your family
  13. Reject Monkey (Name of one of my dog's monkeys...)
  14. Heather, I just emailed Bamdad and he emailed me telling me I am on hold list. I said that I didn't receive anything so he is looking into it. This is NOT the first problem I have had with GWU application process and it's compltetly disrespectful. I put a lot of time into my application. Why can't they do the same. I hear you about drive time. I live in burtonsville and although I can get to Towson in 35 minutes w/o traffic, it could take me 2 hours in traffic...ugh..same with GW. Loyola is also very close to me! I applied to 2 yr programs. Let me know what you decide!
  15. Heather and Msara, I applied to Towson, GWU, Loyola, UMD, and Gallaudet. I got into Towson but haven't heard anything from GWU or Loyola, but in the unlikely event that I am accepted to those schools, I will be in the same position as you. Here are my thoughts: If you are an MD resident, Towson is way cheaper, especially is you get a GA position. Towson is also in the process of setting up a new building which will house the speech and hearing clinic, autism, and kinesiology clinics, which sounds awesome. As of right now though, I prefer GWU's facilities, then Loyola's, then Towson's. What I like about Towson is that almost all faculty still practices, which I think is very important, since I am more interested in the clinical aspect than research. Also Towson has been the friendliest, always promptly responding to my emails. I love Melissa, the current GA handling admissions stuff. I am highly interested in Autism, and all 3 programs seem to have focus on that, but I like GWU's most. GWU also uses a treatment that I am very familiar with, Floortime/ABLC. Loyola apparently has a curriculum that is favorable to obtaining clinical practicum placements. I just had lunch with Diane Lewis last week, who created the ABLC (affect-based language curriculum) and asked her if she would be more likely to accept someone to her clinical practicum who went to either Towson, GWU or Loyola and she said that if she had contracts with all those schools (which she doesn't by the way. She only has a contract w/ GWU), it wouldn't matter which school they went to. It would be solely based on their achievements, drive, and "fit". Thus, I concluded that reputation doesn't necessarily play a huge role. Towson accepted me "early decision" which tells me that they wanted me. That also plays a role in my decision. I hope this helps guys. Maybe you could shed some light on my dilemma: Since I have not heard anything from GWU and Loyola, should I contact them? Take care Steph
  16. Hi Guys, Have any of you or anyone you know NOT heard anything at all from GWU? No one is replying to my question on the results page, so I thought I would try here Thanks!
  17. It's ridiculous actually. I was lucky and received my first acceptance on 1/31. I wasn't even expecting it. Since then, I have only heard from 2 schools and both waitlisted. I think it's become an ego thing now. I'm like, "what? I didn't get accepted?" I wish they would just accept or reject me. Anyway, we all should be happy to even be accepted somewhere, whether or not it's our top choice school.
  18. I just noticed that a couple people received their LOYOLA acceptances today...Since I did not, which is prolly bad news, I was wondering, did you get accepted to the Foundation program? or the 2 year program? Please let me know so that I can stop stressing out.... I appreciate it And congrats!
  19. WOw, 300 applicants just for the foundation program or in total? I applied to the 2 year program, still have not heard anything. Goodluck to you
  20. I applied to 5 schools for their Speech-language pathology masters programs. I bombed my first GRE (610Q and 390V) so I studied for a month straight and got a 660Q 730V. I thought, great, I should do pretty well with a 1390 GRE score, but although I got into 1 school, I already got waitlisted at 2 schools. I think that it had to do with my gpa. My undergrad gpa from COrnell in animal science is a 3.41, which is a lot lower than the average gpa for all the schools I applied to. I would say GPA is way more important than GRE. Obviously letters, resume, and personal statement are very important as well. I wouldn't fret so much about the GRE. I've seen lots of people with 11-1200s get into top 10 schools, but they have amazing GPAs and probably everything else.
