  1. Hey Shelley D, While compulsively checking the gradcafe results page, I notice that there are way way more Acceptance and Waitlist posts than Rejections. In fact, the percentage of rejection results is shockingly low. Doesn't that seem strange considering most SLP schools these days accept less than 10% of all applicants?!?!? Logically, there should be way more rejections that acceptances. I feel you on the competitive app thing. Before I discovered this addictive site, I thought my application rocked!!! especially after raising my GRE score 390 points to a 1390...but apparently you have to be the greatest of the great to get in these days. Goodluck to all of you "competitive applicants"! (which seems to be all of us...)
  2. You are not alone! I am also 28 and this is what I want to do with my life. Did you apply to more than one school? Your post-bac gpa is really important, and it's really good, so hang in there. I made the mistake of applying to 1 school last year and didn't get in, so this time I applied to 5. I never thought I looked older than any other student until I attended some open houses..... I hope you get in!
  3. They definitely want to admit students who will complete their program successfully...but I think it's also a lot about the fit. You might be applying to a research1 school but have very little interest in research, but just as good credentials as someone with a tad bit more research interest, who ends up getting in. My fiance was wondering, A) if there are so many well-qualified students who are rejected to these SLP programs and there is a great need for qualified SLPs, then WHY DON"T THEY EXPAND THE PROGRAMS OR CREATE NEW PROGRAMS TO KEEP UP!?!?! Wouldn't that make sense??? Have a great day y'all Seyeau, honestly UMD was my top choice, because I took my pre-reqs there, but I just didn't like one of my teachers, who is currently the director of the program. I really like the LEAP program, but I like GWU, TOWSON(they are renovating a new building and moving their clinic), and LOYOLA's clinic better.
  4. Not many have posted on this topic recently, which is too bad because the posts from 2009 included all the schools I am applying to!!! If anyone is applying to schools in the DC/MD area (GWU, UMD, Towson, Loyola, etc), and want to chat about them, please post!! Steph
  5. Bummer about Northwestern. Was it your top choice? Your stats are quite impressive. I am also an out-of-field applicant, majored in Animal Science at Cornell, 3.4GPA, but 3.67 in my SLP courses. 730V, 660Q, 4.5AW. Lots of hands on experience with children with special needs in clinical, school, and home-based settings... I wish they could tell us WHY they didn't choose us, you know? Why am I not the right fit for UMD, why are you not right for Northwestern? I just don't get it!
  6. Seyeau, if you don't mind me asking, what are your stats? Congrats on UMD acceptance! I was waitlisted and not sure why...
  7. You should get points based on your persistence! Incredible. You obviously really want it, so you will get it! I have only had one acceptance, Towson, so Let me know if you get in! Goodluck!
  8. Hey TayFray and anyone else who heard from GWU, do you mind sharing your stats? I haven't heard anything from GWU yet and I am getting a bit worried. I had several unfortunate communication/ technical issues with my application and since GWU has rolling admission, I feel like it's going to penalize me. Goodluck on the hold list!
  9. Hello SLP hopefuls and admits. I am new to this site, so to answer the initial post questions... I applied to UMD, College Park, Towson University, Loyola, GWU, and Gallaudet. I have a fiance, 6 dogs, and own a house in maryland, so I only applied to schools in my area. The good thing is that I got accepted to Towson at the end of January. I didn't realize how darn competitive getting into SLP programs was until this site...so I am just happy I got in somewhere! Plus there are lots of good things about the school. I got waitlisted at UMD, which was a bummer...because I don't think I will have a chance to get in from the waitlist. I haven't heard back from GWU, Loyola, or Gallaudet yet. Sometimes I hope that I won't get any additional acceptances because I would have a hard time choosing which school to go to. I visited all schools but Gallaudet and liked them all...If anyone has any feedback they would like to share in regards to any of the 5 schools I applied to, PLEASE DO!!!! Goodluck to you all
