  1. Did you interview at both schools? I think you might be wait listed.
  2. i was just accepted to SVA, and am still somewhat surprised, honestly. does anyone know about funding at SVA? my guess is that it's pricey and there's little in the way of financial aid packages, but does anyone know if they offer even marginal aid?
  3. Someone just posted that he was accepted to Tyler today via phone call. Was anyone else accepted?
  4. I don't think I agree. For one, even if you're interested in teaching, there are so few positions available that I wouldn't bank on getting one, not even if you attend a top program. It's a supply and demand issue. Regarding gallery representation, I've spoken to gallerists about the importance of an MFA, in general, on an artist's resume. Believe it or not, they said it really didn't matter. But even if it did matter, I don't know how much money you'll earn from gallery representation alone. I applied for MFA programs and am intending to attend one, so I'm not against pursuing the degree, though I realize my above comments may make it seem that way. However, I also decided last year not to take out 60K in loans to attend, based on the realization that I would forever be paying that back, and this would limit me in more aspects of my life than the degree would ultimately further my goals. It's a delicate balance. But I'd say you should aim for schools that provide funding, or grants from other sources, to offset the amount you'll need to borrow in loans. That being said, I also turned down an offer of a full ride at a school that I felt wouldn't help me develop as an artist. So, again, go for the school that will benefit your artistic and professional development, but don't, if you can avoid it, go so deep into debt that you'll forever be climbing out of it.
  5. No, she wrote elsewhere that they didn't interview her.
  6. Really? There were at least 10 of us who were invited to interview about 2 weeks ago. I didn't realize they were still conducting interviews.
  7. So why not tell us we're on the wait list then??
  8. So here's a question. MassArt sent out acceptance emails yesterday (definitely for my program, and I believe for most others, too). I wrote to admissions asking if they'd please confirm that my application was rejected (so I can move on already), but all they'll tell me is that letters will be sent out by end of month. How do they profit from making me wait another 2 to 3 weeks to hear for certain what they already know, I already know, and they know I know? It seems a little sadistic, if you ask me.
  9. Apparently, MassArt sent out their acceptance emails yesterday. I'm guessing those of us who didn't hear back are probably out of the running now.
  10. I interviewed 2 weeks ago--haven't heard, either way.
  11. Has anyone who interviewed at Tyler heard anything yet?
  12. I tried to defer last year to save money to offset loans and they wouldn't let me. They told me I'd have to reapply this year. All the same, you could ask the admissions office.
  13. Has anyone who applied for the MFA in photography at MassArt heard back yet?
  14. I don't know--I interviewed at Tyler almost two weeks ago, and haven't heard back. As far as I can tell from this forum, no one seems to have heard anything one way or the other.
  15. I interviewed at MassArt, too (for a different program, granted), and haven't heard anything yet either. I think it's been about three weeks now.
  16. Congrats! Quick question--where in the application does it indicate your admissions status? Was this in the "message center"?
  17. has anyone who interviewed at MassArt heard back yet??
  18. here's a general question: why do these programs make us wait on them if they know they're going to reject us? i mean, if all finalists are notified and interviewed, it would seem that at that point in time, these programs pretty much know who they're not admitting. so why not notify those people? it just seems it always takes longer to receive a rejection letter (or a "deny" letter, thanks ASU) than it does to receive acceptance or an interview. why make people so anxious waiting for a response if you already know they're not finalists for your program??
  19. I honestly can't figure out the mysterious ways in which these schools work. i don't know if UCI painters were notified of acceptance, but womp_womp says that all finalists working in any media were interviewed there. Tyler painters, I believe, were notified of their finalist status, though they don't interview (though photography finalists do). Confusing.
  20. are you sure they interview everyone? Tyler, for example, interviews photography finalists, but apparently not painting finalists.
  21. yeah, i just got my "deny letter" email. charming. absolutely worst form rejection i've ever seen..... oh well.
  22. do they email to let you know when they've updated your admissions status? or do you basically find out if you happen to check the website at the right time?
  23. just heard from Tyler for photography MFA--interview next Monday.
