  1. Just checking in to see if anyone applying to MFA Sculpture at RISD or SAIC has received an acceptance yet (through email, phone or letter?) I just got another offer, offering a scholarship but giving me a hard deadline to work with, March 18th, and I'm hoping to hear from these two schools before then. Cranbrook Academy of Art: accepted SAIC: interviewed on March 5th RISD:?? --- Canada: York: accepted with full scholarship (phone and mail) Guelph: interviewed/ rejected by mail Concordia:??
  2. This is a great thread idea! hmmm the thing is...I actually really like my life right now...there are several things I WILL miss, and I just know I'm making a worthwhile sacrifice I will miss my boyfriend (practically common law husband) I will miss our lil 1 bedroom apartment that we've shared for over 7 years... I will miss my cat. I will miss my family and friends (I'm from Toronto, Canada and heading to the states for my MFA) I will actually miss my current Job- I work as a metal shop TA in an art school- ...it's an awesome job! The only reason I'm leaving it is because I know I have to get further accreditation if I want to teach art in the future...and I'm looking forward to focusing on my work. I guess I WON'T miss getting passed over for positions I would really like to hold, but have been told 'I need a masters..'! I WON'T miss not having a studio space to work out my ideas.!! All and all, I'm giving up alot...but it's all part of a bigger plan I have for myself
  3. Hi fellow MFA grad applicants! I was wondering, has anyone applied to SAIC for MFA in sculpture, received an interview on the 5th, and have since gotten an acceptance? I know it's only been a few days since the interviews, but I've also received some other offers- one with a full scholarship- just curious if anyone had heard early if they were accepted to SAIC MFA sculpture- the sooner I know the better! Thanks guys, and good luck!! Cranbrook: accepted! SAIC: interviewed RISD:?? --- canada: York: accepted with full $$ Guelph: rejected by mail, after interview Concordia: ??

    how old are you?

I will be 30 starting my MFA this coming fall. I took time out of school, both in between high school and art college, and between getting my BFA ( grad. 2009) and now. I found the experience of not being a student really important for my growth as an artist, and as a person. I've been told my age is the average for MFA's, but I always thought it odd (but not all bad!) to go straight from undergrad to MFA...at the masters level I feel you should already have professional experience under your belt, and I don't think student shows count. (sorry.) I hope to see other folks my age in my program, although I don't discriminate based on age, just level of maturity. That's code for, I hope I'm not bunking with a bunch of kids...
  5. I applied for sculpture, btw congrats on your Parsons acceptance! that's awesome!
  6. Hi Guys! I'm new to the site! I've had some replies, but am wondering, has ANYONE that has applied to RISD MFA Sculpture been contacted yet- either for an interview or with an acceptance?? I've heard they don't always interview their candidates. here is what I have heard already: SAIC: interviewed on March 5th Cranbrook: accepted RISD: ?? crickets. The way things look right now, I'm leaning towards Cranbrook, because they have a really unique program, and it's exclusively a graduate institution...So I won't have to line up behind a bunch of undergrads to use the bandsaw during crunch time... (hee-hee)
