  1. Officially declined a super-nice package from U of Denver w/doctoral studies fellowship. I hope this makes someone's day - it's an amazing city & a beautiful campus!
  2. Congrats to you, too! I'm 20c American/AfAm lit. I'm strongly considering a visit to campus (maybe even as soon as this weekend), but a lot could change in the next couple of days if funding doesn't work out. That's really going to influence my decision...which I HATE because Minnesota was my top choice all along. What are your thoughts at the moment?
  3. I'm not the one you are talking about, but I got in off the waitlist, too! I'm absolutely thrilled but apparently they're not able to offer their typical funding package...although this "could change" in the next couple of days, if some more people decline their offer. Mind if we PM to discuss details?!
  4. Congrats, Tortola! I'm just a lurker on the UT board, but it's always gratifying to see someone get in to their top choice school Well done.
  5. Congrats! There hasn't been much chatter about UGA in this forum, unfortunately, so it's been tough to gauge interest in the program. If you hear anything (or make any decisions), please let us know...maybe we can incite other people to join the conversation!
  6. Hmm, interesting - thanks for the update, lyoness. Maybe I'll be lucky enough to join you. My subfield is 20c American/AfAm lit.
  7. Any updates on the Minnesota front? I know they just had their visiting weekend, so people must be making some decisions - either for or against! I'm on their waiting list, and it's definitely my top choice...soooo I. AM. DYING.
  8. Hi newengland, I'm currently on the waitlist at UGA for Lit, so it's a possibility for me! Have you been accepted?
  9. I am currently in the MA program at NC State and cannot say enough kind words to do it justice. The professors are wonderful/mega approachable - they're always ready to help out, provide guidance, encourage research, etc. The English grad student association is also really active & great for getting to know people outside of an academic setting. It's a wonderfully friendly & supportive environment. If you're interested, please PM me for more details.
  10. I'm in the same boat, alorsjoy...just so you know you're not alone. I like to think we're not rejected til we're rejected!!!
  11. I agree with the above responses, and would also add that on top of not being funded, New York is an INSANELY expensive place to live in general. I completed my first (unfunded) MA there, and it simply drained my bank account. I'm still recovering two years later. There's enough stress in graduate school without having to worry about your finances. Ideal Scenario: Use the extra year to earn your MA, pad the bank account a little, build up your CV, then sit back & watch the funded offers roll in!
  12. I've declined UNC-Greensboro's offer, but I'm not sure that'll help anyone since it was unfunded anyway. Yuck.
  13. Thanks, QC. Mailbox was empty again today. I e-mailed Cynthia, so hopefully she can calm my nerves. Congrats on the waiting list - I hope you hear even better news soon!
  14. I'm going to change my middle name to "waitlisted"

      I like it...!

  15. Has everyone who applied to CU's PhD program heard back? It seems like a slew of letters arrived last week, so I rushed to my mailbox every day for the past 4 days, but I still haven't received anything. Anyone else going through the same thing? I know the USPS can be weird, but it doesn't *really* take a week for a letter from CO to reach the East Coast, right? Paranoia is setting in......
