  1. Okay, thanks for the response. Good to know
  2. Agreed. But I assume that is probably the list that this person was referring to...because it's pretty much (and unfortunately) the one that most people know of I read a post somewhere on this site about a department that was hiring and brought in several faculty members to guest lecture a class. The candidates from departments that held a lot of cache lacked important skills having to do with the position. In the end, the job went to a much more well-rounded and versatile candidate from a mid ranked program. That's purely anecdotal so take it for what it's worth, everyone. Billy, do you know when we register for courses?
  3. Thanks for posting this. What makes you think that only 1 M.A. student per year is funded? This year I was told that the amount of funding depended upon the number of applicants. And which rankings are you referring to? Leiter's?
  4. That's true. I'm sorry to hear that. From what I was told it sounds like 7/7 spots have been filled.
  5. Thanks for the condolence. You could email him. I literally just corresponded with him a few minutes ago, so you might get an expedient reply.
  6. Just got my rejection email from Prof W. I shall be going elsewhere!
  7. Anyone else get an email today re: their amount of funding? I did. And I am pleased.
  8. I wouldn't say that asking for the information (whether it is provided on the site or not) is anything to be ashamed of. I don't know why you'd want to use a pseudonym and go through the trouble of setting up an alternate account. Honestly, any program that acts as if you don't have a right to ask for their placement data is probably not anywhere you want to be. Just my opinion.
  9. Yeah, I agree with the sentiment above. I would not base your understanding of Hawaii's reputation off of the (very relative and subjective) perceptions of other applicants. However, if someone turned up who was an alumnus or current student in the program, you could perhaps take their account with at least a bit more confidence. Even that should be kept in check though, at least in my opinion. So, looking at placement data would, indeed, be a much better criterion with which to ground your understanding.
  10. Yeah, that's what I would assume, especially given our earlier discussion of their likely strategy w/r/t the structure of the waitlist, subfields/tracks, and available spots. I do think that if, e.g., a postcolonial candidate turns down their offer, that spot is likely offered to a waitlister who is either of the same track or a very similar/proximal sort of one. Edit: And you (viz, Tybalt) and I are definitely not in what I would consider to be proximal tracks. So, luckily, I don't think we're waiting for the same spot.
  11. Yeah. I count around 3 or 4 people who are on this board and have been rejected off the list. Wegner emailed me, too, but he said that I should have an answer very soon. I thought it would be before Friday but I guess it will be during the final week. I think Tybalt is still on their list as well.
  12. Guess it's going to come down to the final week for me. Dang.
