  1. So I heard from a friend the following on when acceptances are going out. SFSU - this week or early next week. Apparently they have already decided but it is Spring break now.... SJSU - by April 1st - which is better than the 15th, which is what I was expecting!!
  2. Yeah I'm pretty sure I didn't make first cut either! I don't know if I interview very well, to be honest But I did get into an in-state school so I'll probably go there anyway (and they were twice as competitive! what an ego boost!) I was glad I got to see the program and campus though. I hear they just snagged 2 more professors from PDX state's program. I'm interested in seeing how the program works out. Thanks for the info on NMSU! I actually got an acceptance e-mail from them too. Their program looks cool, but yeah, the location is kind of out there. Will probably turn them down because I'd rather stay in CA for the tuition now that I have at least one option. Congrats on your acceptances!
  3. Reportedly, LA isn't sending out anything until mid-April which is totally absurd. SJ's website said that they will send stuff BY April 15th so don't contact them until the 16th about your application. But who knows when they will actually send them? I'm tempted to call them and say that I'm not asking about MY application but about all applications in general and see what they say! I just want to know what I should do about making other schools wait while I make a decision. Most schools need a reply if you are going to take their acceptance by the 15th so I think it's totally mean for schools to do this to us... If you call those schools and ask and report back here I will give you my first born!!
  4. I don't know loads about Northridge other than what I got off the website and what I've heard through the grapevine. I applied to the on-campus program. It is a more medical based on campus. The online program is more expensive and you have to apply way in advance (I know people who have been accepted for Fall '13 - they may do rolling admissions). You are responsible for finding your own placements and supervision and it's probably geared towards working in schools. It's more expensive than the on-campus one, not surprisingly. I hear it is good - but I wouldn't do it unless I had no other options (like not being able to move). I need the resources and supervision and classroom learning. I did all my pre-reqs online and it was great, but I couldn't handle it for grad school.
  5. Wow, didn't Pacific snag PDX State's clinic director, too? They sure know what they are doing...
  6. Thanks all! Congrats on getting your interview too, JoH! I know SF is also brutally competitive. Where else did you apply/are considering? I'm kind of waiting to see what San Jose has to say. I actually don't know how it is in comparison to San Diego, but I like the area better and I just might have a good deal on a place to live if I were to go there. Any insight anyone has on either program is most welcome!
  7. I think the first step is to pay no attention to "ranking." It doesn't mean anything and it's not what you should base your judgements of the schools on. Unless you are going into research or something in a specific area it is a useless tool to determine if it is a good school or not. I like the fact that they are inconsistencies, even though it does leave acceptance periods kind of a mystery. Schools have their own ideal candidate and that's a good thing, I think. My sister went through the law school app process and MOST of what those schools look at is GPA and LSAT. You are pretty much a number. So while predicting an acceptance based on stats might be easier at a school like that, I don't think it speaks much to how much the program sees you as an individual.
  8. Right, SDSU is a CSU school, as leesta said, to be clear. So it probably does suffer some of the same effects of budget cuts that the rest are - but to what extent, I don't know. From what I hear, LB's grad program is having a harder time in that area. I am CA resident so the budget problems of public schools is FAR outweighed by the benefits of the affordable tuition and the good reputation of this program. I did undergrad at two CA CSUs and I sure did shitty things happen as we lost money - but I don't have any basis of comparison to say if they are worse than other public schools in other states now. Also - undergrad programs (where I am speaking from experience) and grad programs might be affected differently - just speculating. If you were in-state I'd say - go anyway, you can't beat that price! Out of state, I don't know enough to give any useful advice. I guess it depends on what other programs you get into and their pros and cons. Also - call SD and ask! They would be the first place who would know exactly what the future of the budget means, and how much it would affect (or not affect) their department.
  9. Got an acceptance email to SDSU this morning! Was really surprised (see two posts up where I assume rejection!) It's my top choice and I know it was crazy competitive this year. Kind of makes me wish I would have applied to other ''reach'' schools that I chickened (SFSU and LB) but I probably would have chosen SD anyway! Anyone else get in? Anyone else accepting? I'm going to wait a couple weeks and see what else I hear just to make sure. I'm pleased as punch and feeling like I really lucked out. SUPER thankful that this came early too.
  10. I guess it's no small feat to go through so many applications - but man. Do you think that people who end up accepting at such a late date are those that applied to CSULA as last resort and have no other choice (may well be me come late April!) or it's their only school? That or they can afford to lose massive deposits... Just seems like they won't get their pick of applicants, waiting so long.
  11. Here is what someone posted about when acceptance letters are going to be going out in the other thread. I thought I'd post it here because it will probably get buried in posts over there soon! Couldn't stand it, called a couple of those oh-so-elusive CSUs today. SFSU: "within a couple of weeks" CSUN: "end of March, early April" CSULA: will go out by mail starting mid-April SDSU: "within a week," bless your soul!! Couldn't reach CSUF, I'll try again later! My reaction: CSUN had a due date in Mid-Dec didn't they! And LA - mid-April!! Isn't that when we are supposed to have told other schools if we accept or not? Sigh...it's going to be a long two months.. Here's hoping I get into SD can just accept right away (yeah right!)
  12. Thanks for the heads up! Hogwash indeed - I have a feeling the CSUs are going to do the same to me. Do you happen to know who PDX State tends to accept? Mostly from their undergrad program? Mostly in-state? I'm an out of state-r and I've heard they only accept a handful (like, five) of us.
  13. Whoa someone already got a call of acceptance! (Well, according to the board). Wonder if they've given them all out yet? How did your other interviews go?! I applied to NM State. Do you happen to know anything about their program?
  14. Hi Sunjinro! It sounds like you have some great practical experience! That will serve you well! This is what I know about the schools you mentioned (since I looked into or applied to all of those!) Out of state tuition is INSANE in Oregon, so if you are a Californian, thinking about PDX State - it's actually going to be more expensive than Pacific if you don't get residency before you attend. Pacific doesn't have a prereq program. PDX does. I recently talked to someone in the program and it seems like their classes are HUGE. I would probably go elsewhere if I didn't get in-state tuition there. I don't know anything about U of O. All CSU schools are insanely competitive. SJ and SF slightly more so than EB. I think they are mostly school-focused (particularly EB) but remember, you will get experience in all areas, so I wouldn't consider that a dealbreaker - esp when you don't have much of a choice! SF State puts a lot of emphasis on prior experience, so you would be a good candidate if you got good grades in your pre-reqs. They do have an undergrad program there. You can only apply to their grad program if you have your BA or pre-reqs in COMD now (its ok if its from somewhere else). They've dropped the extended Masters program. East Bay DOES have an extended Masters and regular program as far as I know. They'd be good to do a pre-req program. Especially since they have weird requirements (why I didn't apply - some of my core classes are over 7 yrs old and I was NOT going to redo biology and that stuff). I get the feeling the students are on the younger side. SJ also has an undergrad program. I can't remember if they do extended Master's. I am guessing not. They were very helpful on the phone and the website is very informative. I heard a rumor they do favor their own undergrads for the grad program. Don't know how true this is. I am taking my leveling courses through USU distance (culminating in a 2nd BA) and it's pretty good. I feel it is preparing me well. The classes are hard though - way harder than my on-campus undergrad degree. But I'm managing to keep a 4.0. They just changed over to a SUPER crappy platform for the classes though. It kind of makes me almost want to warn students against it, but if you're cool with not having a discussion board to communicate with other students and a shitty email function (ie: you work pretty well on your own), go for it. There is related non-official facebook group of helpful students to make up for this. Your stats look really good. Good luck!
  15. The interview went well - though I'm never good about talking myself up! I'm either too self-deprecating or I feel too arrogant! But they were pretty general questions, nothing too tough. And they were great about answering my questions. They were individually given and didn't feel rushed. There were a number of different interviewers too. I also learned that they got over 200 applications -- so we were in the top 60% at least! They'll be accepting 35 initially, for 35 spots, but of course I'm sure some will choose to go somewhere else so they'll end up accepting more than that. They're going to let the first wave know "very soon" they said. Probably in the next couple of weeks. A lot of the other applicants there today were from local colleges - U of Oregon and Portland State. Overall I got a pretty good impression of the school - everyone seems to know what they are doing and it seems well organized. They have lots of clinic contacts as well from their existing PT and OT programs and all practica are off site. Good luck with your interview tomorrow, and definitely chime in on what you thought too!
  16. Time to revive this thread for Fall 2012 acceptances! Anyone heard anything yet? Carina - I applied CSULA but I honestly don't know all that much about it. I applied to a ton of schools and its hard to get much info out of a lot of the CSUs. The vague things I've heard have been good.
  17. "Stronger"? Girl, you've got killer stats and are already 2 for 0 on acceptances! Stop making the rest of us look bad !
  18. I'm going up for my interview on Friday! When's yours? I'm curious too. I even called to see if it was more of a "come see our campus/hear a pitch!" or an actual interview. The woman I talked to was adamant that it was an "admissions interview" so I decided to schlep myself there last minute from CA. I've heard they've invited 120ish (out of how many total applicants, I don't know). Write back on how yours went! I'll make sure to update one of these threads as well. Somebody asked in another thread about this so check also for answers here:
  19. I've got an interview at Pacific on Friday - I will report back on how it goes! I've got my reservations about a new program, but they do seem to have their stuff together and I'll get to do some more examining at the visit. I don't know how many people applied, but they invited 120 to interview for 30-40 or so spaces. I still don't like those odds, but I do imagine it isn't everyone's top choice, especially as a new program, so they'll probably accept more than that. I also applied to PDX state - Thanks for the info! It was mostly on a lark, and because I already was shelling out for other CSDCAS schools anyway. Their out of state tuition is brutal, even more expensive than Pacific, though so even if I were to get in, I probably wouldn't be able to. Out of curiosity, why didn't you apply there?
  20. Things are nuts here in California, too. Over the last few years app numbers have climbed and then suddenly doubled LAST year! If they doubled last year, I don't even want to know how many applied this year. ::Shudder:: This is why I'm dropping $250 on a plane ticket to rush up and interview at a safety school I probably won't be able to afford in the end. Don't want to blow the option if it ends up being the only one I've got!
  21. I actually had a school tell me, when I asked if my first bachelor's horrible GPA grade would be detrimental even though my 2nd bachelor's grades were near perfect. The head of the admissions dept (a professor) told me straight up I didn't even have to mention my first degree if I didn't want to. I ended up doing so, since my 2nd wasn't going to be complete yet at the time of admission, but I was surprised to hear that. If you really are concerned, ask the school. But honestly, what's the harm of leaving it out? It's totally irrelevant. Nobody will look OR care.
  22. Uggghh me neither! I guess I better get on that. I was obsessively diligent at the beginning of this process but at this point I have just simply run out of steam! Two schools to go! Edit: Oh wait, the app has to be marked as mailed? Hmmm more info here for those interested https://portal.csdcas.org/applicants2011/faq/academic_update.shtml
  23. Thanks everyone, I just needed some reassurance. Curse/Thank all you new-test takers for diluting my score with your good math (but crappy writing ) scores!
  24. I took the GRE just before they changed to the new test, in July 2011. I got my score report in the mail and was satisfied with my score, even though I flubbed the Quant section. My scores were 680 V, 650 Q and 4.5 Writing with respective percentiles 96, 59 and 67. A few months passed, I started paying the obscene amount of money ETS requires to forward a letter with my scores to grad schools (over twenty bucks? REALLY? Such a racket) and I get a confirmation letter in the mail saying my scores were sent to the 2 initial schools I chose. However, when I read the letter I found my percentile ranks were different than the initial report! The scores were the same but the percentiles were 96 V, 56 Q and 72 Writing! Why the heck is this? I was kind of pissed to see my Q go down, since I wasn't happy with it from the beginning but I guess my writing going up was good? My question is, WTF did this happen in the first place? More importantly, which scores do I report to my grad schools that ask for percentile? I have already entered the old ones in some of my apps that I've submitted. If the schools receive the updated report from ETS with the different rankings, will that be considered lying on my app?
