  1. No, actually the prof told me that I was already selected but I did not asked him about the details. Contacting the program coordinator would probably be the way to go about it. thanks.
  2. Hi, In the university I finally decided to go, I was offered a TA ship and one of the professors also mentioned about giving me a summer aid (something of that sort but did not get any letter as such). However, at that time I wasn't focusing on financial packages and was in a state of confusion about which school to go to. Now, that I have accepted their offer would it be rude / inappropriate to ask the professor about that summer aid? One more thing, he is not my POI. Anyone with a similar situation? need help...
  3. Actually, I am kind of in a similar boat my self. I had one good funded offer from school A which I accepted in early April. I had an interview with my POI at school B and told me he would contact me within a couple days regarding my status. Unfortunately, I did not here from him since then even after I emailed him for the same. Now they have contacted me saying I am on their waiting list and will let me know within couple of weeks. This means there is a very real chance they may notify me after April-15th. So, what should I do in the mean time? Do I contact School A and let them know my situation? then what happens if I eventually not get accepted in school B? Or, Do I contact school B instead?

  5. Thanks for your reply. I did my undergrad from NIT, Durgapur. Publications : (1 in LNCS - SEAL 2010 and another springer journal NCA) + 1 pending in elsevier ASC. As far as the recommendations go no I did not have decent ones last yaer, the above profile is for this year. Did my research interest/ SOP negatively impact my app?
  6. After a forgettable f'11 application season I am starting afresh for f'12. My topic of interest fall between Electrical Engineering and CS. Unfortunately I have a BS in Electrical and around 70% of the CS department (not EECS) which has a active research group in my field. I have relevant research experience in my field including some publications, and also an industrial R&D experience. I have following questions:- 1. Will my research background make up for my lack of CS coursework? 2.would it be better to apply for a MS instead of PhD to improve my chances?(although after two years of research I desperately want to directly get in to a PhD). 3.If I do an MS then should I consider more higher rank schools, which case I like to know do top schools fund MS students.I would definitely need the fund though. 4.what is the significance of taking a CS subject GRE? My profile: GRE: v670 + q770 + awa3.0, GPA-8.5/10.0 pubs: 2 journall pubs(1 in tire 1) + 1 conference pub (tire-1) + 2 pending in top journals LOR: 1 decent + 1 strong + may get another strong LOR
  7. This year was my first attempt and I am facing a similar situation. Only one school is pending and at this point it not looking too promising. So I have started thinking about alternate plans for the next season. The main problem I am facing is not being able to come to term with the series of rejections, and more importantly what were the more common weaknesses in my application which resulted in my failed efforts.Unfortunately the schools which I have applied I did not pre contact potential POIs and currently having trouble in getting any feedback about my application (any help here?). But I do agree with jaxzwolf, It is important to pick yourself up and do what you think is the best option for you. For myself, I would mostly continue my current research and look to improve my publication count and in mean time post-mortem my failed application season. The key think is to keep your self motivated for your goals (which by the way I am currently struggling to do) and fight for your dream school.
