  1. Congratulations on choosing your school! I think School C has done a great job of catering to your needs and interests - they sound like they really want you there. There is certainly less likelihood that you will get lost in the "sea" of graduate students and you are free to explore beyond your horizons. I wish you the best of luck and I'm sure you'll prove to the naysayers how successful you can be!
  2. Congratulations RecycledViking! I was hoping you would get in after reading about your dilemma. Though our majors are pretty different, it's very heart-warming to find someone else as excited to go to UConn as I am! I wish you the best of luck and maybe see you around campus!
  3. I think one of the best perks at my school is the offices we're going to have I can't wait to have a little space to call my own. Best of luck and I hope you get one!
  4. Ah basketball... one of the few things in which my school reigns. UConn all the way! Please note that I know nothing about basketball, and have seen two games in my career here, both women's home games... but I gotta vote for the home team!
  5. I can't believe I didn't see this thread before. I'm going to grad school at my undergraduate school this fall, having committed to debt for several years... but I love my advisor and I have a home three blocks away from it. Best of luck to everyone getting funding!
  6. As an incoming master's degree student at my current university, I'm thrilled to be able to work with the professor I asked for, to continue living close to home, to taking the relationships I already have to new heights. I believe that for students that choose to stay at a university, conferences would be an excellent way to network. I personally plan to attend at least three in the upcoming year. I love being able to call UConn home!
  7. I third the motion to use Kaplan! I upped my score about 80 points and recommend it to anyone taking it. A friend of mine used Princeton Review and upon looking at it, it seemed easier than Kaplan's - basically if you're doing even moderately well on Kaplan's practice problems you have a great shot at getting a good score on the GRE!
  8. Congrats StoriaItaliana! My field is speech-language pathology but I was just looking around for fellow accepted graduate students. Best of luck at UConn!
  9. I agree... there are many things I should be attending to but have fallen by the wayside. I feel like I will be a better daughter, friend, companion once this graduate school process is over. I think, despite the sense of foreboding I have now, that a rejection would at least feel better than this limbo.
  10. My boyfriend is a tall, muscular fellow that loves action movies, meat-lover's pizzas, and watching baseball. Imagine my surprise when, upon visiting his house for the first time, he falls all over his cat, cooing after her and saying, "Awww kitty!" I love that he's a cat person at heart and, even though I'm mildly allergic, expect to have at least one when we get married. The cat can have his/her own room, hopefully!
  11. I'm pacing to find out... and I could easily walk into my department and ask... but the secretary there has a tendency to yell at anyone who walks into her office. I think I will wait for the letter after all.
  12. I applied to two schools, and once I saw this article, I rushed over to EdFind. EdFind is a directory of all the schools future speech-language pathologists apply to. I looked up all the schools in my area and kicked myself until I saw how much each of the others cost. Nearly double what I'm going to pay at these schools! And I'd have to be farther away from my future husband. I suddenly felt better. If I don't get in, I'll do my darndest to find a job and save the money to go to any school one day.
  13. I'm waiting for notification from my alma mater. I am an undergraduate hoping to get a master's, and I am taking several classes with people in my major. I learned that one person had been accepted in that class about a week ago and no one else had heard yet. I also want to work with a faculty member on campus and know practically everyone in the department. I'm sorry you were rejected; I can imagine what a blow it was because I feel almost paralyzed every time I check the mail.
  14. I find myself fortunate belonging to the undergraduate population of the graduate school I have my heart set on. I know many of the graduate students there and they know full well I intend to join their ranks. One person today saw me mulling over a homework assignment and asked me if I had heard yet. I told him I hadn't and I would let him know. He said he had tentatively good news - he had the dubious honor of helping the secretary send out rejection notices this week and I was definitely NOT on the list. My heart skipped a beat! I started dancing up and down the hallway. I would've belted out a song from Singing In the Rain but I didn't want to interrupt classes! Now, he cautioned that he didn't know who was accepted - I might very well be on a waitlist. But just to know that the people I've worked with did not throw out my application before they had even looked at it is gratifying. If professionals in my field didn't need a master's to practice, I would be satisfied just with that kind of positive feedback. Now I'm crossing my fingers and hoping beyond all hope!
  15. I used to love going on Facebook to check how others were doing. It would inform me when others were sick, celebrating a birthday, or out of town. Now... all I check for is the status updates that say, "I got into grad school!" I do that three or four times a day. I also try to concentrate on work but it's super hard these days. I hope I get in. *crosses fingers*
