  1. According to the DGS of my master's program, it can't hurt to remind them how much you want to be there. He also suggested that if any faculty that you're close to know people at that school, it wouldn't be a bad idea to ask them if they might contact people for you. He's calling one of his friends on the admissions committee at the school where I'm waitlisted this week for me. So I really hope that works out!
  2. They got a new DGS this year, so it's totally reasonable that things might be done a bi differently.
  3. I'm sorry, but I agree with sonofcioran. Your English is muddled and difficult to understand. Your phrasing is very clearly non-native. In order to succeed in an American PhD program, you are going to need more clear and fluent English as well as a higher TOEFL score. Come admissions time, you will be competing with international students who have perfect, native fluency English. If your materials are written like these posts, you won't be able compete. If you can, I'd really recommend that you study abroad in an English speaking country to try to improve your scores and your English.
  4. They already had their visiting weekend, so unless they told you that you are on a waitlist, it does not look good.
  5. Lincoln is 45 minutes away from Omaha. And 3 hours from Kansas City. It's really not in the middle of nowhere.
  6. So none of you use MLA searching? MLA is the most complete cataloger of scholarly articles in English (although it often misses out on single-author books). JSTOR has less than 10% of what is out there. And a lot of what it does have is not good.
  7. My GAMES is up to date. The grad school should send out the first notice, and they will update on WAM, but I'm not sure about GAMES (because GAMES is a trial program).
  8. DEClark, sorry to hear about Texas Tech. Have you looked into alternative certification? With a degree in English, you shouldn't need to take any classes. With alternative certification (in Texas) you can do the modules online and take the certification tests in person. It might be a good option. Hopefully the economy will look up for next year's apps!
  9. Have you still not heard from Texas Tech? Their recruitment weekend is March 6-8, so if you don't hear soon, it might not be good news. If your interests are in American Studies, it is probably not the best place for you anyway. The department is really heavy on British--18th C and Victorian.
