  1. I had several friends who completed the PCMI program at Michigan Tech. MTU is really big on its Peace Corps program, so they offer all PCMIs a 30% tuition waiver and pay for all of your credits while you're in the field. My friends made up the rest with GTA or GRA positions. Perhaps FSU offers the same sort of financial support for its students?
  2. I'll revive this post I'm starting my master's in information science at the School of Information this fall! I'm originally from the area, so if anyone has questions about Ann Arbor I'll be happy to help.
  3. Anyone else going to the University of Michigan next fall? They keep promising an online social network for incoming students, but haven't set it up yet, and I'm antsily excited to meet my new future classmates
  4. I heard from the Financial Aid office on Monday, but it was only to say that I'd forgotten to sign the tax return I'd sent them. So they're at least processing things now.
  5. I hope the "next few weeks" is >4, if we need to decide by May 1st! :/
  6. I was also a tech comm undergrad. I definitely don't think you're too computer-oriented. A lot of tech comm programs desperately want students who are more hands-on. They're flooded with applications by Creative Writing Majors Who Can't Find Jobs. But the key to technical communication is understanding the science/technology you're writing about, so that you can explain it more clearly. Technically oriented people are at a great advantage in that aspect. The level of acceptance and comfort you'd find in the program will really depend on the school, however. You'd find your niche in a tech comm program housed in the engineering school (ie. University of Washington) or a program at an engineering school (Michigan Tech, RPI).
  7. I just got the email today. I've been "recommended for admission," so they just need the Graduate School to approve my acceptance. (Has anyone ever had an instance where the Graduate School turned down the department's recommendation?) All quiet on the financial-aid front.
