  1. Is your spouse applying to ND for theory or constitutional studies?
  2. Same. Sigh, I'll try to be happy if you get in and I don't. But really.
  3. It looks like ND will be next week (around the 7th). I wish I had known about Deneen leaving sooner. There was no reason for me to apply without him there. ND is also one of my favorites, but I didn't apply for theory there. I think that would have been suicide. Gah. Can it all be over. I just want to know what my options are/if I'll have options.
  4. I got some interesting news for theory people today. Has nothing to do with admissions directly, but thought some of you might want to know these things. Pat Deneen is leaving Gtown for ND. His blog post about it is here. As far as I am concerned, this changes the look of the theory program substantially. While his blog post only confirms what I have heard about the department, I thought I was safe applying there with him on the faculty. Also, Duke is, apparently, restructuring theory to be some form of theory and public policy or something of that nature. That doesn't affect me much, but it might affect those who want to focus more on the history of political theory.
  5. Le sigh...Duke looks like they have great placement (even for theorists). Congrats to those who have been accepted.
  6. I'm applying for normative theory. What I hope to do is look at the political theoretical tradition and see what it has to say about current American politics and just war. Kind of a cross-over between two/threeish fields.
  7. Once I've finally made a decision (should I receive multiple acceptance letters), it'll be wine and shoes. Expensive wine and shoes or, well, kind of expensive wine and shoes, because I'm still living on a poor undergraduate budget.
  8. Notice, I said lowered a little bit lol. I still have 8 schools that can tell me that they have other applicants that they prefer or that they want me.
  9. Baylor has sent out some invitations for a campus visit. I know they like meeting their top applicants before choosing whether or not to admit them. Someone else has also received such an invitation, and I was wondering if you any of you would like to claim it or report that you had also received one. I'm certainly looking forward to meeting some of y'all in person! Congratulations to everyone who has been receiving good news! It looks like we have many people who were accepted @ Madison. Maybe this will keep your anxiety levels down. I know getting admitted somewhere definitely lowered mine a little bit.
  10. I will be learning Greek in grad school. I have not, however, been given the impression that one absolutely must know it. It's probably a good idea to at least have some general knowledge of Greek civilization and some words (especially those with alternate meanings, think eugens and the "noble lie"). Philosophy and political theory, while closely related, are two different disciplines. I couldn't imagine my way of interpreting texts fitting in with how those in the philosophy department approach texts (I've already tried, and it did not go well). I did not apply to philosophy programs because I think that the approach is so different. Maybe it's just my undergrad institution, but they are too disparate for me to even consider applying to philosophy programs.
  11. Also, someone else posted an acceptance to TAMU on the site...if whoever it is would like to message me, that'd be awesome.
  12. Yes, but for obvious reasons I am going to refrain from putting up my stats and a list of the other schools to which I have applied. I hope that all of you receive some good news in the coming weeks (and for your sanity's sake, I hope you receive it sooner rather than later).
  13. Acceptance #1, received. I can't believe that I got one this early, but I am hoping to get a few more. So happy to know that I will be going somewhere next fall!
  14. Got an e-mail from Chicago, and my heart basically stopped. Then I read the message. All they wanted to say is that my app was being forwarded to the ad comm. Unnecessary.
  15. Done with 9/10. Won't be doing the tenth until next semester, as it is not due until Feb and my bank account is really drained.
