  1. @strudelle - We (Magoosh) do have free resources including a free vocab app similar to the Brainscape one. Just search "Magoosh GRE flashcards" on your Android or iPhone. We also have free resources on our blog, just search for Magoosh GRE Blog. Thanks! Bhavin
  2. Everyone should buy the Official Guide from ETS, it's the only source of questions from the makers of the GRE. Other than that, there's a lot of noise out there when it comes to buying GRE books, especially since the test changed in Aug. 2011 and many books were rushed to print before that date without knowing all the details of the new exam. Manhattan GRE, while on the expensive side if you buy the entire set, is a good bet. Hope that helps!
  3. Here's a recent article about the best GRE books for 2013 (http://magoosh.com/gre/2013/the-best-gre-books-of-2013/). Not surprisingly, ETS and Manhattan GRE are on the list. Hope that helps!
  4. The Official GRE books from ETS are a must because they are the only source of actual GRE questions. Aside from that I highly recommend Manhattan's set, they do a great job. Here's a detailed review on their GRE books: http://magoosh.com/gre/2012/manhattan-gre-book-review/ along with links at the bottom to more reviews such as Kaplan's, Barron's, and ETS. Hope that helps!
  5. Completely agree with @spore, @tropicalcharlie, and @unforth. Leave enough time to try again in case it doesn't go as well as you hope. Typically 3 months of solid prep can get you a good score. Also remember that you cannot take the test more than once in a 30 day period.
  6. Any score below 300 is tough, because univ's see it as the lower 50%. I always recommend contacting the programs and trying to find out what average scores typically are for admitted students, but in the absence of that I'd suggest re-taking. I wouldn't worry too much about the writing. Because you can make up for that with your essays in the application. But try to be above 3.0. Here's an article I wrote on the topic, there's a lot of profiles in the comments: http://magoosh.com/gre/2012/what-is-a-good-score-on-the-revised-gre/
