    Turbo Tax?

I am trying to do my taxes with Turbo Tax. Since I worked last year and then went to graduate school and received a stipend, I am being told that I owe $3700 in taxes. Ouch. I did not know that the stipend was taxable.
  2. Congrats, OP! I am a firm believer that there really is no perfect time to have children. Are your/her parents near? Try to see how much they would be able to help. I know a girl who was able to finish up some of her coursework and clinical hours early in order to give birth in November. She spoke with our program director who was very understanding about the whole thing. It worked out perfectly -- She graduated in December and is enjoying time with her daughter before taking her boards in the spring. As for med school, there are fora upon fora at studentdoctor.net. There may be a thread there describing your situation. Best wishes!
  3. I agree about the loss of variety. I guess it doesn't matter with toothpaste, but it might matter more with food. I do get a good deal on my CSA (community supported agriculture) box that changes each week, so that provides us with some variety. I don't enjoy going to the store that much, so the delivery aspect appeals to me. I think I might just stick with it for staples like rice, pasta, beans, etc. I really like not having to think about what I need to buy, making a list, and then having to go to the store. My experience has been mostly positive for my other subscribe and save items except when it's raining!
  4. Anyone have any input about Amazon's subscribe and save program? I have been using it for my toiletries for a little while (soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, razors, etc) and I was thinking about starting it for groceries. It seems like a lot of food for just the two of us, but I wonder if the convenience of having it delivered and the discount make it worth it.
  5. I feel like I haven't been able to get organized for school since I started last fall. The main reason is because I can't reconcile whether I want to be a paper person or a digital person. I'm given a lot of paper from older fashioned professors, and I do prefer to do my readings on paper if possible. However, it is a lot to carry and shuffle around. I have my calendar on Google and most things for school need to be submitted electronically. I feel torn. Anyone out there feel the same way? It feels like if I don't get it together soon, my grades will suffer. Help?
  6. I save just out of habit, but also because I'm still working 12 - 24 hours per week. Most people in my program still work, and some full time. I got a rare (for nursing anyway) scholarship/stipend that forbids me to work more than 24 hours per week. I put away about $300/month into the emergency fund and then I try to save other money for travel/fun stuff.
  7. Check out the PBJ breakfast muffins. Mmmmm...
  8. I'm a little apprehensive but still excited. One of my professors continually mispronounces words, has typos/misspellings/flat out wrong information in some of her presentations. I'm not sure what to think of that. One of my other professors made it pretty clear that she was not happy to be teaching the course and announced that one of our (more interesting) labs is to be cancelled because there are too many students in the class. Seems wrong. Fortunately my two other classes seem well thought out and interesting. I haven't made any buddies yet, but most other people in my program are married/have kids. Bummer.
  9. I mean people going to class in sweatpants/yoga pants. I think a little effort when attending class goes a long way.
  10. I continually feel like I dress like a granny compared to what I see on campus. What's wrong with jeans, high waisted skirts, t shirts/blouses, and a cardigan? I'm also really not impressed with people who do cover up but make minimal effort. In undergrad it was a big thing for sorority girls to wear nike running shorts and huge t shirts/fishing shirts. I don't get it. Also, sweatpants people, I'm looking at you.
